I was ready to put my money down and changed my mind. I'm going to give it a couple of years and then consider buying a used one after it's depreciated.

I sold my 1200gs after about a year. It was good on the road but just too heavy in the dirt. Also, didn't like those shin bangers hanging out there.

I bought a used 650 gs earlier this year. I commute to work on paved roads (low 60's mph fastest) and finish on a rough gravel road. I like the lighter bike as it's more nimble and no shin bangin'.

This 800 could be the sweet spot as it looks to be similar weight to the 650, perhaps better suspension and a little more power for around town.

I voted wait and see. See how many teething problems it has and wait for a good used one that someone trades in for a 1200 (that's how the 650 I bought became available).

I don't know what kind of slippery footwear you must be wearing, Jim, but I put more than 72,000 miles on my old R1100GS and never once banged my shins on those jugs. If anything, it was a comfort to know that if I aimed wrong those big hunks of metal would hit any protruding obstruction before my shins did. Plus, they kept my feet nice and toasty during cold-weather riding. Not so fond of them in the summer, though.

But the old 1100 has moved on, and long live the new 800 (grey, ABS) I'll be getting. #4 at my local dealer.

Yeah, I agree on them being heaters hanging out, did nice in the cold.

We get a lot of sand down here on the trail "roads" and when you've got to dab your foot in a turn, the jug is where your leg wants to be........must mean I was going too fast.

I commuted to Marco Island (1 -1 1/2 hr one way) for a job for a while and it was grand on highway, back roads.

Unless you have access to the bikes BMW has out at the shows or are lucky enough to be on the inside, everybody gets to wait.

Waiting sucks...

The f800GS was to be my perfect bike. Then BMW annoyed me with poor work for lotsa money. Then I bought a blackbird for Europe, and a TDM850 for the commute. Then I saw the Moto Guzzi Griso..

Still like the 8GS though..

I remember when I got my first BMW R11GSA in '95. I had scabs on both shins till I learned not to try to get my foot by the front wheel when rounding corners in the dirt ah la motorcross style.

Gonna hang about and watch that 800GS. Could be a great bike. To bad Yamaha didn't carry on with their TDM 850 over here in the states.

Cheff you have to get the bumblebee so when I get the grey/black we don't have a fashion fopaux. Where to buddy?

LOL agreed!!! I like the yellow the best. The more I read and look at it the more I want it. But I wont pay premium so I will wait a bit and see how they test ride and hold up with the guys that buy them right away.

I will think about it, but for now the wee strom does everything I need it to just fine. I like the little GS, but it is awfully expensive.......maybe a used one in about 3yrs

My money has been down since June. Not sure if its the yellow or grey tho. I like grey better but for visability am leaning toward the yello.
Yello is pretty flash.....

Oh for those 'deciding' to wait for the '09 so the '08 kinks are worked out. Why not wait an extra yr cause by then the '09 kinks will surely be worked out.
