Sprinter, Transit, ProMaster small diesels only discussion.

Sprinters have been on my mind a few years now, but all the issues you read about online have kinda kept me away.

Now that there are other options, I am curious to hear from owners.

Yes I realize now that the Transit ain't here yet - it'd still be good to hear from those with the same powerplant..

Definitely curious to hear from Promaster owners...

If only there was some 600+ page thread on vans.

OP, do yourself a favor and do a search for "vans" in Shiny Things. Pick up a case of your favorite beer and disable your eBay account before you open the thread, though.

If only the search function worked on advrider..

Edit: found it, front page..

Soooo, I have no interest in reading through 600+ pages of westfalia, econoline, savanna, etc vans.

Just interested in the 4 I mentioned in the OP.

Yup I've seen a lot of sprinter builds, including the eponymous Geek thread, as well as a lot of sprinter forum threads. They're worse than beemer fans with their biases.
I'm seeking differing opinions on the 4, especially the three non sprinters as there's plenty of info out there on the sprinter..
Especially if someone has inside info on the US Transit..

Sorry, I thought about it after I posted but that's all I had.
I'm kinda interested in the Merc as a class B. I haven't seen much negative except for paint/rust issues. I'm kinda leary about finding a place to work on the Sprinters when on the road. It seems like Ford would be much easier.

I'm watching your thread with much interest.

You realize they are barely even on sale (someone told me that they have sold something like 500 of them TOTAL). I have yet to even see a single one on the road. And you expect one to come in here and give some feedback that isn't still under the new car euphoria?

When some feedback actually comes out, you will find it in the VANS thread.

so what have they been selling overseas for years and years? Is the US version really that different? Other than being just another new model year?

3 years ago when I first saw them running engine cooling testing up Davis dam grade they were running hood pins. That would indicate a significant change was done.

Having seen European vehicles, and the "same" vehicle built and sold here in the states. They are completely different.

Even if you found someone with Transit experience, it would be a European experience, not an American experience. Point of reference is off. Pretty bad plan to just assume that what we get here is going to be identical to what is on the other side of the pond.

Still back to finding one of the few that have actually made it on the road, and also find a European version and see if they are even close to each other. For that matter you might as well be asking Fiat owners how they like the promaster?

funny you mention that, I am literally doing exactly that.

I think you may be underestimating the level of "rebadging" that goes on - sure there will be all sorts of small differences, but I'm a big picture kinda guy.

I'm starting to see more contractors out here using the ProMaster and even more so the NV. I've seen a few new and previous-gen Transits out here, but all still with mfg plates.

The majority of those vehicles sold in Europe are manual shift diesels.

That will be a small percentage of vehicles sold here, if they are even sold that way at all. There are all kinds of different safety and emissions laws so even though they might look similar, the driving and ownership experience might be difference.

We are waiting for the Transit to hit the dealerships in quantity before buying our next van.
