I hear ya Mothra!

The Sandblast rally sounds like a great event. I think I'll look into helping out as well. I'm also an amateur radio operator but all I have is a tri band Kenwood HT, not sure if that would be helpful or not.

I am a still a newb HAM (KK4GEM) but here is the information for the rally radio net. 2 meter and 50 watts is enough. I am sure they could use another HAM.

Has anyone been in Holly Shelter Game Lands? Is it worth riding in there? I was thinking of trying it out on the 16th or 17th. Maybe both if it's ok to camp there. Also looking for intel on the Croatan...

Good question. I have seen the smoke in L.A. I rode last Sunday up Shaw Hwy and across Maple Hill Rd over to 53 and didn't see any sign of burns, but that doesn't mean it isn't going on.

there is primitive camping in holly shelter, its on the map.
maps online from nc wildlife. gates only open during hunting seasons. no hunting on sundays but have been seeing lots of people riding horses.

I know deer season is over, not sure about other seasons. Does the closed gates mean you aren't allowed in this time of year, or can you bypass the gates without a hastle?

as long as a hunting season is open, the gates should be open.
would not be wise to bypass these gates. you break rules in game lands expect to lose your bike. the game lands are patrolled by sheriff and nc wildlife officers.
their big thing is no drinking and stay on the roads, no freestyle trail making but regs are online.

is not like it used to be in there. many of the roads now gravel and easily passible. since the big fire they are keeping roads in good shape. also doing a lot of logging in Bear Garden tract, which is best riding area.

Well then, if anyone is interested, we should meet up and check it out one day this coming weekend.

If its not hunting season then the holly Shelter gates are locked. I don't think there is an open season right now. Clfess keeps closer tabs on HS than I do.

Sandblast Rally

So is anyone from the Wilmington area planning on going down to Sandblast? I talked to Anders a few days ago and they are short on volunteers for this year.

There is free camping and you get free lunch and dinner Saturday.

Also, cool bikes and cars going fast. At least one former Dakar racer.
