If you are a bit unsure about doing it yourself pipemasters in albion are very good and helpful older guys who would do it well . .. I have seen plenty of posts on modding the current model pipe but not your model . You should be able to get info re jetting / mod 610 thread in thumpers

I'm pretty sure those mufflers have a catalytic convertor inside. If that is the model you have,(.99 to '04 610 TE-E) just drilling out the rivets doesn't achieve much as the aluminium outer is just a cover over a full steel muffler underneath.
Once you remove the outer cover, you still have to cut open the muffler itself to get access to the insides. Still easy enough to do, but a lot more work than it appears. Keep us posted on what you end up doing. |

Not sure what model you've got there but for earlier TE610's ('96 - '99) there was a mod to drill out the rivets, pull out the internals and cut off something like 90mm off the end to assist in gas flow. It certainly helped and sounded good too.
Stefan from R&D Husky in Penrith is always very helpful on info of this type of info. |

Sorry, further to the above, a perforated core was then put down the middle and then muffler packing stuffed around that. |

Thanks for your feedback guys.
I don't mind giving it a crack myself, but I don't wanna get caught out half way trough and can't finish it off. How do I know how much muffler packing to put in and perforated core to use. Where would I get this stuff from? Thanks again for the help. Dan |

Dan, you can buy exhaust packing from any decent bike shop.
If you run into trouble, I can recommend the exhaust shop near Moss Street as they do the exhausts for the Husky shop down there too. They did a great job on my XChallenge can.

After seeing a few photos and reading about it a bit more, I'm more confident to have a go myself. Although, that thread is modding the later model mufflers and mine is a 03 TE610e. Can't be too much different once you start pulling them apart. Right???

The principles are the same, even if there are differences in the details.
I did something similar with a set of mufflers on a heavily modified 630. The main difference is that I used a first stage resonant chamber with a single baffle and the second stage is concentric perforated tubes with a (insufficient) glass outer packing tuned for maximum noise reduction at 4000 rpm to get it past an SNT if it were ever questioned, keep it civil in town and a semblance of comfortable when droning on the highway.

Dunno about the Safari tank... I built my own which is bigger and heavier and doesn't cause any trouble. Isn't that a GS in your avatar? I wouldn't have thought that an extra 10kg of fuel weight would bother you too much.
