Birthday Pig.

It was my birthday today so I decided to take up the offer of a ride with TopDogDave down towards Wombeyan Caves.

The weather forecast looked good but when I got up it was already drizzing and didn't look too promising down south.

What the hell it's only water. I was late getting away and didn't have Dave's phone number so I hoped he would wait for me.......or maybe I was secretly hoping he would have gone and I could drop in on my mother who lives in the area and she could take me out for lunch!

Much to my disappointment Dave was waiting patiently and was on his second coffee. We waited while I had some yummy fruit loaf and we were almost convinced that the weather was clearing.

We headed off saying we would see what the road was like and if it was too slippery we could always turn back. The road was pretty wet but it had good grip in most places....I had a couple of small slides and I could see Dave's trusty PD moving around a little. The cocky bastard said "At least it's not dusty".

We made it to Wombeyan caves and had a short break (choccy Paddle Pop) then headed up the hill.

We took Lang Road and were heading towards Limeburners. Neither of us had been down to LB, but I remember reading a story that there was some pretty steep stuff. The weather was OK, some light rain and mist meaning I couldn't put my visor down as it would fog up, and when it was up I was getting a face full of drizzle. The surface was mostly still good and we kept going, or rather I did, straight past the turn off to LB. Dave caght me up and we decided to carry on the way we were going and see where we ended up.
I'm not sure if it was the map or my travelling companions navigation skills but we didn't get to where we were headed.....the name escapes me now.

We thought we were on track but came to an intersection that didn't seem to be on the maps. Oh well turn right and head in the general direction of Jenolan caves.

We ran into some local wildlife.........well we didn't actually run this poor fella down.

A few more checks of the maps and we were soon dropping down to Jenolan caves through a heavy mist. We decided to push on as we were both cold (and I was wet) and get a hot chocolate when we fuelled up.

A friendly tourist snapped us in the Grand Arch.

Dave showing Bacon the sights.

We continued riding through mist until we hit the highway and headed for home.

We refueled at Mt Victoria and had a hot drink.....hmmmmm.

Bacon meanwhile was chatting up the local girls.......go Pig.

Dave headed back via Bell's and I took the boring highway.

A great day out and I couldn't think of a better way to spend a birthday.

Thanks for the invite Dave, it was great to meet you.

Sorry there are not more photo's but it was wet most of the way and the Pig didn't want to get out of his top box.

I have the pleasure of Bacon's company for a couple more days. I'll try to show him some sights of Sydney before I hand him over.

Matt (another year older....... )
