Buddy owned this. I got to crew on most races. The South Africans America's Cup sailors used to use it for training occasionally.
It was very fast and very light. The hull is all carbon fibre and no comfort. Basically a racing sled. Huge fun. It was great to take out the 50' and 60' bigger boats on Wednesday evening races. It is a Reichel Pugh 37' It won line and handicap honours for the Cape Town to San Salvidor Race across the Atlantic. ![]()

I cannot tell you what it is, but my wife and I had the pleasure of sailing and staying aboard her Aunt and Uncle's boat this past Labor Day weekend. he has been sailing all of his life (I know enough about sailing to be useful, but nowhere near the depth of his knowledge) and it was a real hoot to spend the weekend aboard w/them.
![]() We also had the pleasure of taking a cruise around Newport on this which was captain'd by a broker who had been in the area for decades. Knew damn near every boat in the harbor's history, owners, etc. Neat little sailboat and a great little cruise. ![]() He and my uncle have done many a race and told of a fella (who was tied beside us) running out of provisions for his crew one race Turns out he was trying to save, save, save on the weight so they would be faster. nevermind, the fella probably tips the scales at well over 350 pounds! Weight savings indeed... Anyways, great times and a new respect for sailboats |
