hey skwiddy.....finally saw the light and got a DRZ400S...not as cool as the E like yours(?) but it has a plate....

dunno if I'm ready for the SI300, tho....is it true that there's an "easy" route as well as the competitve route?

Mine's an 'S' as well,i just changed a few things.

The Sheetiron is not a competitive event at all, unless you count a few of us getting real stoopid through Sherwood for several miles.
It's an organized and well laid out dualsport ride that goes from Stonyford to Ft. Bragg on Saturday, then back to Stonyford via a different route on Sunday.
They give you a route sheet when you check in Saturday morning and you toss an overnight bag in their trailer, your gear is trailered to a pickup spot in Ft. Bragg so you just grab it there and hit the campground/hotel of your choice.

There are 'easy' splits around everything difficult on the trail sections. We took a goldwing rider on his second ever dirt ride last year aboard a KLR and he did fine,we made sure he rode his own pace and waited up for him taking plenty of breaks.

Do it if you can,it is a lot of fun.

I will be there for sure. Only got to do half last year, but I am in for both days this time around. Probably won't try to do anything as stupid as riding up from SF the morning of the event this year either.

That water crossing got several people last year.
For those concerned,it was on one of the sections clearly marked 'hard way' and the easy route had nothing like this on it.

I'm In!
I've been looking forward to this ride. It's one reason I bought a Husky TE, wanted that plate. I guess I could ride my F650, naw I'll ride the Husky.

Skwidd, I was on that ride that Boney did last summer through Mendo NF riding my old xl two-fiddy. We're doing a ride this Saturday through Mendo and we might cover some of the same roads. I will be riding the F650 for this and it looks like we'll have some big bikes going along. Of course you're welcome to join us.

Yes, lets do the Saturday ADV gathering.

I nominate this place:

http://www.northcoastbrewing.com/

Fuggin great world class beer, and good food, north side of town.

It is a little walk from some of the hotels, but not bad. It is at the north end of town.

Say 6-7pm, post bag pick up/check in/shower, then take over the place...?

Maybe wear a moto-related t-shirt or your dual sport jacket to help help identify as an inmate, or slap an ADV sticker on your forehead? Any other input?

Best beer label ever?

Cheers

I'm already sick for then, since I plan to be finishing my "all dirt" trip to Utah (or already be there) that weekend. That's right, here to there, minimal pavement. It's 800+ miles and I think once I get to the Sierras (depending on the snow pack) I can get "there" with only about 20 or 30 miles of pavement.

This trip is already locked and loaded in the calendar. Sorry.
