Airfreight Quito to Panama City

Three of us are planning a trip from Lima to Virginia in Dec. '08. To leap the Darien, we plan on flying the bikes - two 1150gs and one 650gs - from Quito to Panama City. As part of our planning, it would help to have an idea of what the cost might be. Has anyone paid this freight? Yes, I know it is still a year away, but time flies when your having fun.

There is no reason other than available time. And there is plenty of time to change plans. Do you know of a source for freight costs from Bogota?

According to this link, $250 got your bike from Panama to Bogota. Was it the same in reverse?

Also according to this link, Panama/Guayaquil or Panama/Quito were each $400, but the bike had to be crated.

Also according to this link, flying yourself Panama/Bogota was $168.

When Dave and Sharon Thompson posted this ride report, gas was $1.25 a gallon.

Here's a more recent link: http://www.bogriffinrides.com/html/january5.htm

It cost Bo Griffin $557 to fly his bike from Panama to Bogota, and another $262 to fly himself. According to his ride report, flights to Ecuador were harder to wait for.

Good luck and let us know what you find out. http://www.girag.com/e_reservations.htm

I started a thread on Panama. Please add to it if you can. http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=293986
