Dave installed the BMW update kit that replaces the entire sidestand and circular bushing that the bike came with. It is only about $160.00 and fixes the problem completely!

That same kit was offered to me by MaxBMW but I thought it was the stock kit. Ddn't know it's an upgrade of sorts.

But they highly recommended the Brown sidestand, slightly cheaper at $140.

It is a stock kit. It is worth the money. It will fix all of your problems with the original sidestand. It is WAY better than that crappy Brown sidestand.

One of the good things about BMW is when they see a problem they fix it and offer it for sale. This isn't true for everything, but it is true for lots of stuff.

The list of things that BMW never addressed in thier bikes and cars is longer than the next longest lie by several miles. Last I heard, the surging R-1100's were still surging and thats been what... 26 years? Longer?

Where do you think the Brown side stand came from? It was designed to replace the crappy OEM side stands that BMW refused to fix. Since BMW's fix costs $160.00, I think I'll keep my $90.00 Brown side stand for a little while longer.

It's sturdy. It won't drop the bike (Unless theres an earthquake!) and it stays down when you put it down. The biggest confidence booster is that it wasnt designed by BMW. Loll!

Be that as it may, and Lord knows I've contemplated a Brown, but they look like crap to my eye. I went with the stocker. It fits, it works and it won't rub a spot on my nice powder coating job.

What you'll find is that BMW upgrades parts, but generally doesn't talk about them. Sidestands are an example, as are other smaller bits like the final drive bolts that now come with a flange instead of a washer. As I was working through this bike, many of the little bits that I bought were different than the original parts, with some small modification to them.

Go right ahead and continue using your Brown. I can't stand those things and have never had one of my BMW's drop from using the stock side stands.
