giant sat dishes on up in the santa monica mountains area

Thought someone might know what they are, for all I know they are gone now. I used to ride up there a lot on mulholland and yerba buena road. I remember seeing these gi-normous dish antenna (guessing satellite) in a little valley up in the mountains.

Figured someone here may know what they are.. Not that it's important, just one of those things I've always wondered ;-)

Military dont F with em. Is whats left of the base/barracks there still? I used to live in the SFV and was up there often. BTW, Many of those roads off Mulholland DR come out on Sunset Blvd by the beach.

I was wondering if perhaps it's part of an old Nike missile site or something like that. I don't remember seeing any presence there, but I didn't get very close either.

I just remember them being the largest dishes I've ever seen....

There was some remnants of green stucco I recall?? buildings that were said to be part of a missle installation. They were long abandon in probably 1985 when I was last up there.

Dishes

That's not far (as the crow flies) from my house...
Those dishes are not part of a missile base or anything so exotic, it's just a straight-up satelite facility (private sector; data services) operated by IntelSat. (34.0811 / -118.8968)
They do look cool set in that little valley.

The old Malibu Nike Missile Base is farther East near Piuma/Las Flores. (34.0608 / -118.6470)

The serious military stuff is on Laguna Peak to the West (34.1083 / -119.0651)

Scapegoat - You're thinking about the old Nike Missile base near the Sepulveda Pass on dirt Mulholland.

I kinda figured as there didn't seem to be any security presence.

Thanks, figured somebody would know for sure.....

I believe he's talking about paved Mullholland, up by Yerba, Decker etc.

Dirt Mullholland had all the fire roads and trails that end up on Sunset. Many also came out in Topanga. BTDT
It is all nothing but fond memories now that they have closed the road from Santa Maria Rd on the west end to the old Nike base on the east
