Vittles....just a note.

Hero Acres/Market on Hwy 247, 12 miles towards Yucca Valley from Boone Rd, has some damn good made-to-order deli sammiches and also good kitchen food. It's past Mojave Market (closest fuel). Beer and booze available at both.

There's a firewood-for-sale yard (bigger than those small $5 wrapped bundles) north side of 247 in Lucerne Valley, west of 247/18 intersection.

BLM office in Barstow on Barstow Rd (is also Hwy 247 to Lucernce Valley), 3/4 miles south of Interstate, has good Desert Access maps.

Guys,

Sorry about the Thursday/Friday thing (believe me, I'd rather be riding), the Saturday ride wasn't meant to change anything.......just a alternative and/or extension.

Rick

Just checked the weather and there's a wind advisory for Lucerne Valley until 10pm tonight. 35 to 50mph winds.

If this is still going on tomorrow, I'm out, as I'm riding there on my DR650 and would like to make it back to see my wife and kid.

Looking out my window right now, wind is howling and visability is about 1 mile, lots of dust. But, that could change in the next 5 minutes

Check the wind forecasts. They change, of course.
A 5mph wind keeps the dust away. A 35mph wind will sandblast your brain.
Circling the wagons/camping rigs and tents when windy can make for a less windy social area in the center.
Many moons ago, silhouettes of ships were drawn on Means Dry Lake. It was used for bombing practice during WWII. If you ride around the lake bed at night, specifically the eastern end, you will eat a shallow hole and feel real stupid.
Don't ride over old campfire spots unless you hope to recycle pallet nails.
Somebody driving a truck could bring horse shoes. Playing drunk is kinda fun. Bet stuff you never intend to pay off......

As already posted, the open OHV area is huge.

I don't blame you if you bail out. I've been in the same situation when the wind was blowing hard. I have sand in every crevice of my body.

Worse is keeping the bike upright. Let's play it by ear tomorrow morning. I could wait out until the weather becomes more friendly. If Thursday is screwed, I still plan to ride Friday and Sat.

Included in the plan is to get lunch at local restaurant as suggested in one of the earlier post..

I'm bringing enough firewood for at least one night, plenty of water and drinks.

Call or leave me a message. Cell # is 818-268-1549, hope it works at Johnson Valleye too.

I found a crack in the rim on my rear wheel. It must have happened when I took that huge jump in DV. I took it to the shop today to get the crack welded. They told me it'll be ready by Friday. So if all goes well I'll see you Saturday.
