No brake. We do them with and without sidecar brakes.
Two methods are used :
One is plumbed into the rear bike brake.(This can use a proportioning valve if desired)
The other is self contained with it's own master cylinder etc. The actuator pedal runs under the rear brake pedal of the bike with and adjuster to set brake bias. The actuator pedal 'can' be used by itself but it takes a concentrated effort to do so. This way one will not hit just the sidecar brake by mistake in a panic situation.
Both systems work well if one wants a sidecar brake.

I M P O R T A N T ! !
With or without a sidecar brake it is very important for folks to practice panic braking under various conditions. Knowing to the best of your ability what your outfit will do when things get serious is very very important. You can plan your actions but not your reactions and it is reactions that will save your butt.

Short stop for fishing, I love going such roads by my hack (wich is my alternative ride when not going by my vintage rides).

Jim Atkins Sportster / Dnepr. One of the best looking Dnepr sidecars I have seen, Jim put a lot of work into this one.

Nice combo, Good color matching also. Now a proper trail reduction and it is a great combo.
