on that bmw ww2 sidcar rig theres a handheld burner thing attached to the side of the hack body- is that to heat up the oil pan for extreme cold weather starting?

i was told of such a thing but hadnt seen it before...

The Piglet project is stalled at the moment. I need to hook up the rear brakes and fab some body work for it, but haven't goten around to it. It actually rides quite well, but I made an error calculating the ratio of the rear dif and it tops out at 35 mph WFO in high gear

even with the monster truck tires on it, so I need to figure out something there, too....

If it only goes 35 mph, who needs brakes? It would be like the early Ural experience: not much speed and brakes that work like ten speed bicycle brakes.

Pretty much. I thought I had 6:1 but actually have 12:1

At 6:1 with about 30 hp it would be very much like the old Ural experience. As it is I am bouncing off the rev limiter to get 35mph. Sounds like I am ripping up the pavement blasting through my custom Briggs and Stratton exhaust system! I need to find someone who can cut some new gears for the dif or I have to find another axle and start over.

This is an oldie but a goodie. We used the assend of a Suz TM100, welded up the hack using black pipe, bolted it to a Yam RT-1 360 with heim joints to adjust the toe-in, lean, etc. Raced NETRA sidehack enduros, back when they had such things. Even placed 2nd, once - out of a field of 8 hacks....I still pull it out once in a while.

AFAIK the front end is connected to the transmission in the rear that splits power to the two sets of tracks. Muscle the front end to do a left turn and the right track receives more power than the left track, turning the whole thing left.
