Mid 20's. One Nighthawk, two idiots. FL to Grand Canyon.
Some of you might remember my ill-fated Ohio-FL escapade. If not, here you go:
http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=237171 This time things were different. This time I would succeed. You see, this was now the summer. I didn't have to worry about the cold. In addition, I was riding what is considered in many circles as the most reliable bike in the world. A 1992 Honda Nighthawk 750. Just so you guys can engross yourselves in it's mightiness, here he is: ![]() I had 12 days between spring semester at school, and when my first summer class started. So I decided the best punch-me-in-the-face-and-call-me-Sally thing we could go see in that time was the Grand Canyon. I had never seen it before, and it's something every blue-blooded foreigner like myself should see. As I start this magnificent post, I'd like to mention that pictures are a little spotty. You see, the camera we used was hers, and the picture-taking-button broke, so it required the use of a perfectly sized stick to operate. This means that while I like to let the pictures do my talking for me, I will have to fill in holes in my story with my imaginat.. i mean... cold hard facts. Oh, and this will be a mini-series, as I start getting older... (I'm 26 for crying out loud) I'm not able to focus as much anymore, and my memory fails me at times. Anyways, let me introduce you guys to the characters of this story: ![]() That girl is ok looking, but damn, that guy is hot. stay tuned. |

While the trip started in St. Petersburg Florida, I'd say the adventures in Tallahassee. We both had friends there and we stayed with them.
Let me add a few details. Kelsey had just finished writing and presenting her thesis to graduate. She had not slept in 2 days, (no joke) and when we stayed the night in Tallahassee, I got well rested, but she stayed up all night partying. She only had 2 hours of sleep in 3 days. This is what she looked like when it was time to leave and we were having lunch: ![]() ![]() Damn i'm fine.... Anyways, before we started, we decided to stay off the interstates as soon as we got out of Florida. This part of the trip was relatively uneventful. Two hours after we started though, Kelsey demanded that we pull over so she could nap as she was exhausted. We found a spring river with crystal clear water and pulled off the highway. We went swimming in the river to clean off and then napped for an hour. Then I woke her up by covering her in spiders and demanded that we continue. Somewhere in Alabama we decided to stop for some gas. Look at this broad's hair compared to when we first started a few hours earlier.. haha!: ![]() ![]() There were several bikers at this gas station on way larger bikes than the Nighthawk. They were dumbfounded that we would dare attempt such a trip across the country, 2up on a Nighthawk. But they couldn't deny that we looked like we were having a bit more fun than they were.... An hour later in Mississippi, we got hungry and decided to stop for some dirt. Some guy came up to us after he saw the bike and started telling us how he always goes up to Alaska on his new Harley and how awesome he was, etc. (You know the guy) When all of a sudden, his over-fed wife drives up in a 1984 Chevy Celebrity with only one door and yells at him: "Cletus, get your broke ass in the car!" He obliged immediately. We looked at each other and laughed... then ate: ![]()

deeeuuuuwd
daygum I read your Ohio debacle. It was most ignorant, I COMMEND YOU.
I also commend you on your choice of Nighthawk as an ultimate weapon to pillage the western United States. I totally like the olive drab paint treatment. You are currently my new best friend I was once 26, broke ass scramblin across the country on an old Harley AMF Superglide with a hot chick on the back (Sweet thang) laying in parking lots trying to jimmy the points in hunderd deg heat. You are in the sweet spot bro. and for god sake keep it coming.
