Adako road got sketchy right away.

Maple Sally started out muddy and then turned to ice.

Deep ruts=stable equilibrium, but solid ice underneath didn't allow forward progress. I could get going out of the track in the crusty snow, but that got too deep before very long.

This was the end of the line for the DRZ and me today. We didn't even make it to the first gated road.

FR 118 was good to go last night although we barely made it out of there.

The abbreviated ride leads to Valentine's cupcakes.

I forgot to add: some kid rode/pushed a bicycle through Maple Sally today. That's impressive.

I really need to stud up a set of tires sometime...

If only to guarantee that we WON'T see any appreciable snow once I do, LOL!

I bought and installed some auxiliary heat for the house this winter with the assumption that it would guarantee an easy winter.

So we were out doing some tree work in the yard in the sun. It seemed nice and warm. Not so much.

Here is your Maple Sally conditions report.

I think you could make it through at this point. I didn't go past the first gated road. It's still pretty sloppy.

Thanks for the report Gaston! One of these weekends we might try to run Maple, Richlands, etc for an inaugural "blow the cobwebs out" spring ride - just not sure if the snow will be gone or not...

Another Maple Sally report. The mountain bike trails were actually really dusty in spots. I had to get gas on the way out of town. There I encontered some riff raff.

I then encountered two miscreants on dirt bikes entering Maple Sally at the same time I did. They veered off before too long.

As I got closer to Maple Grove, it got snowier and sloppier.

\

I rolled down through Mortimer and attempted Pineola Road. I didn't even get to the road that goes to Kawana.

This was the end of the line. The ride back down through Wilson Creek was dusty as hell.

amazing how long that snow lasts! We rode Brushy Mtn today, saw maybe enough total snow to fill a 5-gallon bucket. Lots of dust in some areas, and lots of mud in others - great ride overall!

GNCC weekend is here! The forecast is looking good. Anyone wanna go for a ride after lunch on Saturday?

I think the pros line up at 1 on Sunday.

I'm in Morganton, so we'll do some sort of ride around here. Probably start off with Maple Sally and then go from there.
