Here's what I'm thinking...

If the weather clears up nicely like it forecast to do...

12 noon at the Wilson Creek visitors Center

(I'll park the truck there as this will be it's 1st big ride since I rewound the ignition portion of the stator)

Come on out and ride.....I just may need to be rescued.....again.

Forecast for Lenoir

here yee, hear yee!

At some point in the warm months of 2008

there WILL be a weekend campout, location/date specifically TBD by the HARDCORE inmates...
The general location/time will be :

BrownMtnOHV / camping area
Summer '08

The time agenda will be determined by the temperatures even in the summer, them parts could just be a might cold at night.

The ideal in mind is for everyone to have a super enjoyable time, with lotsa conversation and camaraderie

plus rides on a Friday...starting in the afternoons..
rides Sat morning and Sat evening..
maybe a short Sunday ride..

Why Brown Mtn OHV?

Campsites are totally free..It's four tent sites to a camp site..about 6 or 8 campsites in neighboring parts of the main road, entering the OHV
Each campsite has two fire pits..

gravel laid down on them..fire pits/camp grill...
nearby facilities.. Men/Women

It's close to the Wilson Creek area, Linville Gorge..the AhO area near richlands, the Globe...etc

did i mention the actual campsite is free? zilch zip nada..

And the BrownMtnOHV is less than 3 miles from many of the local riding attractions entryways..then there is the park itself...although it's pretty difficult on a dualsport in spots.

so for Sat and Sun rides...start up the engines and go..without having to wait until you get there.

This is just a start for the HARDCORE inmates...

Any other business?

HARDCORE dinner night?
Yes, yes...
It seems we should get together, sit around a table and lie...I mean eat..
and talk about the code

Any other business?

If you see this old truck there (visitor center parking lot) but I'm not...(in case I'm early)(yeah right) I'll be taking a test run up to Betsey's Store....so come on up and meet me there....or wait till I get back....or meet me on the road and everybody practice their u-turns.......or the most likley scenario (no truck)...Wait for me!! I'll be there soon....I hope!

I'm currently on schedule and ready to leave. The old DR started rode to gas station, started again and made it home.

Let's hope she keeps on going

See ya soon.

Dialup sucks, so photos are limited today. I will post up tomorrow.

Proof that knybanjo was out riding and not someplace he shouldn't be.

A most excellent ride. It was nice to meet everyone. Layla was experiencing a bit of hypothermia toward the end, but we made it home.

I'm going to try to get my chores done so I can go Versysing later today.

I don't know if this thread should be the place for ride reports or just planning.

Layla and I barely made our minute out of Rally HQ. We hit the gas stop and then the supermotard warmup to Wilson Creek. As we were heading up Wilson, we came upon another dual sport rider, who turned out to be Valvecrusher. Knybanjo and AppalachianDR were at the WCVC. After the seasonally appropriate greetings and salutations, we decided to aim for stuff that would be out of bounds after Jan 1.

We were off up Craig Creek and then Chestnut Mtn. As soon as we got into wet leaves, AppalachianDR started having some difficulty with his street tires, but he perservered.

Access denied. That red oak isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

Whipping the camera out in front of this guy is like waving a red cloth in front of a bull. Bring it!

We didn't try to go down Greentown/Burnthouse even though the gate was open. Maybe next year. We went to the bottom of Beehive, where the forest service contractor is installing a huge culvert to extend the road another 150 yards. AppalachianDR left us with a nice extended wheelie. Sorry I missed it with the camera. Hey, wait a minute. You can't wheelie a DR!

After a quick jaunt up 181, we headed back across Chestnut/Little Chestnut Pass, up Wilson Creek, up Roseboro Rd, and over 451. All the cool erosion humps are gone.

In spite of the fact that you can't wheelie a DR, knybanjo lofts a nice one. I took the photo too early.

More later. I actually have to do some work today.

Misssed another one. Saw App. DR on I-40 we where heading W and he was goin E. to meet up with you guys. I don't have access to the net at home so didn't know about this one. We ended up doing Old NC 105 then just jumped on 105 to Boone had pizza and bear at Mellow Mushroom then hit Flagery Fork to Shulls Mill then jumped on Globe Rd. and came back down to Colletsville. One of these days I'll hook up with you guys for some riding. Looking forward to some of these camp trips.

PS speaking of hardcore I went on about a 100miler Friday morning. Left the house at 9am got back around 12. Went up 321 to Blackberry then jumped on the Parkway breifly to Sampson Rd. Made a right on 268 then a left on Indian Grave Rd. I was about 1 mile from beeing done with the dirt section of Indian Grave and going around a left hander the front washed out on me. It was a low speed slide and in the dirty so no damage to the bike and I just have a littel road rash on my knee. Only a very small whole in the knee of my rain gear so all and all it turned out pretty good.
