Here are a few photos from a ride yesterday on Old NC 105, Lake James, and Mortimer. The weather was great.

Driller,

Let me know when you want to ride! Saw a scooter riding Brown Mountain Beach road yesterday. Going to a KLR Tech day next Saturday in Winston Salem to do the doo and check the valves. Camped on Mount Pisgah last weekend. Here are a few photos of Looking Glass Falls on Rt. 276:

knybanjo will show me some advanced trails in that area when I am ready.

I saw it there yesterday while i was praying at the altar of bike health.(parts dept)
I actually miss riding, since i've done so little lately.
I'm getting bored of sitting on my bike and making motorcycle noises.

Thanks for the tip!

I got an extra mountain bike, you can clothes pin a deck of cards in the spokes if that will help. The faster you ride the louder it gets. It don't get no better than that.

I've also seen balloons tied to each side of the frame and rubbing on the spokes. Makes a great basso profundo twin sound and if you go fast enough they pop! Now that's cool! . . .

Anybody else goof off today?

Went a little bit further west today. First I checked the radar map and it looked terrible. . . almost wimped out and took the cage to Weaverville, I'm glad I didn't.

Of course I took the long way. Up over Roan Mtn is a good start. Then onto Rt 197 starting at Red Hill. Still not raining. . . Good, it's all pavement so far.

Like many WNC roads, it's always changing personalities to keep you interested. And paying attention.

I noticed several detour signs but I stayed my course. . .

Now this looks like a good sign.

The road was a blast even before the pavement ended. . . this is all the same road, looking back I could see seven layers of the road, all with 180º switchbacks

Right after is this nice 5 mile gravel section going down the mountain.
2 bridges in this panoramic. . .

And a tiny waterfall. . .

The sky is still holding water on the return trip. Very good so far. . .

On the return trip close to Red Hill. An old/new bridge project.

Took some pics of the old construction details. . .

I hear a train whistle. . . I hurry up the bank just in time to see it coming.

It takes 4 minutes to pass. . . a nice break.

This time I'll take Hughes Gap Road and run the other side of Roan Mtn. . .
There's a short section of gravel that's well compacted. Hard to get a good pic of just how steep the drop-off is.

We don't need no stinkin' guard rails. They just spoil the view. . .

I figure at the rate I ride, there's a quite a few more hours of WNC before I run out of state!!

.Dave.

Sunday the 24th

Hey guy's, I am going to be in charlotte the weekend of the 23rd.

I am bringing my KLR and looking to ride Sunday. Thinking about heading up north of Morganton. Looking for some scenic routes on some FS roads or 2 track.

I have D606s on it so I am not afraid to get dirty.

Let me know if anyone wants to ride. And if anyone has some good GPS tracks they want to give out that would be great.

Also looking for some good NC BBQ if there is any up that way. Or just some good southern food. I grew up in NC and miss the food badly.

Yesterday(Friday) and today were some of the best rides of the year...

The weather was nice and cool, the sun was shining, and fellow riders were everywhere from the foothills to the mountain peaks...

Great times.....but no pics
