What's young got to do with it? Seriously.

Thanks for all the props guys, this may turn out to be a long one.

I left Monterrey after a few days headed west. I wanted to see Mazatlan and the Spine of the Devil.

Along a rural highway west of Saltillo, I found this, my second favorite campsite of the trip.

I continued west the next day and found some neat things.

This campsite was a last-minute effort to find someplace flat in the mountains to set up my tent. Lots of passing bus traffic, but otherwise fine.

And the next day...

I came across this old Mission and hopped a fence to get pictures. I got a little nervous when the ranchers drove up in their truck, but they just waved and said hi.

Lunch:

And then, the Spine of the Devil.

Maybe in 25 years you won't have the responsibilities that I and some others have...perhaps I should have just reduced that whimsical statement to merely freedom from financial overheads. My trips have to fit in a narrow space of time and so I'm envious. Good reporting.

Never too late to tell the young people you know to go for it.

Bring it on! Love the Mexican trip reports.

As for what age has to do with it? Tell me that again when you get to the 64 year old mark.

The mind and the body start having these meetings. And the body tells the mind what it's not going to do anymore. And , the mind just sulks.

Mazatlan was the first place where I paid to camp, $5 right on the beach.

I found some ferries crossing to the Mazatlan mainland, but I thought the better of trying to load my bike.

An art museum.

Lunch.

Cliff Divers

I stayed in a hotel in Mazatlan and met these folks from Florida. The VW broke down on them every day, they were mechanically inept, and they were loving every minute. I thought about kidnapping her. I had illusions that she'd have been better off with me.

Great thread, way to keep it under-budget.

Looking like a great trip.

Hi Jamie,

I have the very same bike, color and all. I noticed that you have a Tool Tube on your bike. I am in the process of doing the same thing.

Just curious as to what you put in your tool tube? How did you mount it to your bike? I have an idea of how I am going to do mine but would like to see what you did if possible.

Keep the great pictures coming.

Les in Boise Idaho.
