those pictures are awesome! I actually went crazy trying to remember where these pictures were on the site. I thought they were in the gallery but here they are! That's so sick, I love seeing what things were like back then. I'm starting to realize it was kind of the same, just less congestion and gadgits. My dad used to race cars, but I have no way of seeing any of it, except some really bad faded super-8's with no sound. It's amazing those photo's are in such good condition. You should make copies and keep the originals in a fireproof 12 ton safe or something

Anyone happen to know the rake angles on those old FL's?
I think it's 30 degrees.

Thanks

Many thanks for those amazing pictures. I also want to say a big thanks for saving me a lot of money. Was sitting at my laptop here in Thailand drooling over the new 1200GS, thinking about upgrading my BMW doo dad equipped Adventure.... Screw it !!!!! If those old warriors can be catching big air on hardtails, I am just going to have to suffer along with my current ride until it dies. I showed the pictures to my Thai girlfriend and she kept say " farang baa " ( crazy man ). Thanks again.

Hot damn! This is as good a time for my first post as any. Fabulous pictures, Wes. Life is those days was GOOD. Life today is GREAT, thanks to those folks and many others like them. Carolyn Krchmar of Cal BMW pointed me to this pix yesterday. Here is my take after sleeping on them.

These are great pictures of ADV riders from 50 years ago. Similar pictures are available from a century ago showing 4-wheel riders. What strikes me, as a man who bought his first motorcycle in 1960, is how inappropriate the 1950 Harley 74 looks in these pictures. These men were making a point and they documented it with good photographs.

These pictures illustrate the exuberance of life in the USA following World War II. This spirit leaps out of these photos! It is not about ADV riding, nor exploring rugged land, nor trialing a motorcycle. It is about life. The gut appeal of this message is simple, a tangible aspect of an amazing time in our history. Look at what Americans and their machines can do!

ARRJay....you really do recognize life (with a capital L) when you see it....I would venture that you too have seen it a few times in your life to be able to so clearly recognize it....

Congratulations on having those moments....may you have many more...during your time...

Cheers JIm Bud

I am forever humbled!! These photos should be put in the archives of ADV riders! Sure it's easy to do those passes today, but I wouldn't even dream about it on those bikes. We owe a great debt to those who "unpaved" the way for us by thinking beyond the streets. Family photos like those are beyond priceless. We waste SO much energy and time waiting to come up with the latest and best widgets so we can finally leave on that great trip... Those guys were out doin' it on those "cows"! JUST GO!!

This is an official BUMP, if this weren't an official BUMP then it wouldn't have been BUMPED... Why is it an official BUMP you ask? Well, all we need is just under 500 more views and this thread will jump over the vaunted 150,000 views mark... a landmark in ADVrider history...

So get to be view'n

JJ

OK so it's another bump this time we need to push it over 300,000 views... (only 109 views to go...)
