Men among men. I'm blown away not only by their spirit but also the photography. Whoever had the camera knew what he was doing.

Great pix, It makes me think what will people in 50 or 60 years think of our pictures and what were riding today?

Great post. I grew up around these kind of guys in the 50s and 60s. My dad was a Harley mechanic all his life, and had been an instructor at the Army's motorcycle mechanic school in Fort Knox during the war.

Your comments about riding in snow reminded me of an interesting story. We moved to Dallas from Evansville, Indiana in 1958. Eddie Conley closed his dealership in Evansville as the economy there was horrible at the time, and bought the dealership on Elm street in downtown Dallas. Everyone who worked for him (all three of them) moved to Texas with him. Anyway, on the day of the first snow that winter, all of these guys being from the north, thought nothing of it and worked the full day though by 5:00 there was three inches of wet snow on the ground. (Such conditions in Dallas normally call for an early close of business.) After a quick look outside, they realized that Texans had no idea how to handle that stuff and the traffic situation was terrible. Their solution was to leave their cars at the shop that night and ride used bikes from the showroom home instead. It didn't bother them at all to ride in those conditions and saved hours on the commute.

I got my license and started riding in '61. In those days whatever bike you owned was an "everysport" motorcycle. It was amazing what some of the guys could do on those old machines. Great fun.

My Dad rode an Indian and the stories he used to tell were exciting. I remember one thing. He didn't seem to think the Indian wasn't hi tech enough.

Unfortunately most or all of the pictures are lost but I have a few floating around here somewhere and next time I run across them....

Back Then

I get the impression that many of you think the 50's and 60's were a long time ago. I have some bad news, they were not. I can remember the 50's and 60's better than I can remember what I had for breakfast. So enjoy today, take pictures, so you can show them 50 years from now. And believe me, other will love your pictures as much as you like these.

I look in the mirror and wonder who that old man is. Boy, I got old fast.

Yikes!!! I remember 'em very well too...

And I can't figure out who that old man is who keeps hanging out behind my bathroom mirror!

I think I'll go jump on my KLR and show him I'm not nearly as old as he is!

Merry Christmas!
