Awesome pics!

I see this older post is still alive and well; wanted to echo everyone's sentiments regarding those hard-core guys in the 50's.

This post made it over to the DR650 Yahoo forum and I Googled the "1950 Harley 74" and traced it back here. So, it's definitely making the rounds!

Thanks for posting.

Update

Don't trail ride a Harley anymore. Too heavy for me to pick it up. Bought a Yamaha TW 200 so I can go riding with sons and grand kids. 3 weeks ago went with Wes and grand daughter and grand son. GD has a Z 50 Honda and GS rides on the tank of Wes's bike. Will be 83 in a couple weeks and not as strong as the early days. Photos.. Warren, ccco

I had seen the pics before but not the story that went with them. What great memories! So glad to hear you're making more with the family. Saw Wes, Janet, and the kids at Chickfest. Boy, those munchkins grow fast!

My Uncle Gene moved to Phoenix in '49 so I heard some great stories about him riding his Triumph "dirt bike" through the mountains in Arizona and Colorado... sure wish I had some of his photos.

I started 4 decades ago with my first Dual Sport... a SL350 Honda...

Three decads ago I got what Honda called a trials bike... my TL250...

When my sons were a little older we played with "enduro" bikes of the day...

About 12 years ago we started riding on the street together...

Wow

I did a search to find out about Weber custom motos... boy didn't I stumble into something special. These photos are amazing, all of them. Museum worthy. Kudos.

Here's a couple of pics of my uncle Jack in St Louis, just before WW2, 1939-40 he said. He and a buddy had just forged this river on their flathead 80s and he called them.

A couple of the pictures were in the Nov/Dec issue of Motorcycle Classics magazine. I've sent them Wes's direction for more information as well as providing the link to the original post.

So many cool pictures. A couple of mine...

My Dad, on his new BSA freshly assembled out of the crate.

I showed this pic to an old freind of his that stopped by one day, and he laughed and said "I took the picture! That's my car sitting in the background."

So Mom and Dad weren't together for very long, and she ended up living with a guy named Stu Morley for a few years. Stu was a top west coast flat tracker in the late 50's, early 60's until a crash at Tulare CA ended his career. He later raced speedway upon it's resurgence in the states in the mid 60's.

Ascot Park, 1959 I think. The BSA Wrecking Crew, L to R, Al Gunter, Stu Morley, Neil Keen and Jack O'Brien...

I have tons more of old flat track, speedway and just old riding pics, but these are all I have scanned. maybe someday I'll get the rest of them in the computer.

This thread, especially the first few posts, are what drew me to ADV several years age. I found it today and thought I'd give it a bump for the n00bs to look at.

Wink Ride what you got!

Those bikes from yesteryear were state of the art for the time. Everything is relative. I admire them for doing what they did and would not want to trade what I ride for their rides. But saying that, if those were the bikes I had...I'd ride 'em and ride 'em hard!

I always enjoyed this thread and I see people have been adding to it so heres my contribution. Heres a pic of my great uncle Kenny after he came home from WWII, hes on the far right. Unfortunately he just passed away last spring, he had some stories and he was still spunky in his old age...he'll be missed.

I posted a thread over here but wanted to add this photo of my Grandmother taken somewhere off Hwy 50, CA on a 13 day trip she did to Yosemite and into NV with friends in 1922.
