KLRGeoff, we're not picking on you we just can't fathom trading what looks to be a clean RD400F (with chambers yet!!) for a run-of-the-mill KLR650.
Not to mention that a clean RD will auction for 2-3x what a 6-year-old KLR will go for. The guy that got the RD scored, scored, scored.

So I went on craigslist for 5 minutes... 5 measly minutes...

And then I come home with this.

78 Yamaha DT175, 3600 miles, missing a few things, nasty primer job on it. A couple of weeks on ebay and some fiddling around in my parts bin and it's working. Not too bad for 200 bucks. Funny thing is the bastard ran without any sort of intake or exhaust on ancient gas when I brought it home.

Here it is with my husky's stock headlight because buying sealed beam headlights is for suckers (and confusing people is always enjoyable).

Re: Daytona, I know I know, but...

I know that good running RD's are rare and that Daytonas are very scarce, but I don't have money for everything that I want. I did have the Daytona on Craigslist for a while, starting at $3900 and slowly dropping the price. One guy wasted a whole morning. He "borrowed a trailer" and drove from somewhere in Wisconsin and then tried to pick-apart the bike and offered me $1200! He was waving $2000 cash in my face before it was over, but that wasn't gonna happen! Anyway, every KLR that comes up in my area that is 2005 or newer is over $3000 (with some exceptions of course). I will probably regret it some day, but we'll see...

If anybody is interested, I was contacted by a guy in Texas the week after the trade. He has a Daytona that needs engine work, but is supposedly complete. He wants $1500. Let me know, and I will find out if he still has it.

'77 IT250, mostly. YZ450f front end, revalved and lowered a bit (raising it again soon), '78 YZ swingarm & shock, MX tank, probably some other stuff i'm forgetting.
it's mostly just a cheap beater... but i've been using it as my daily driver lately. too damn much fun. plus it gets pretty good fuel mileage around town.

I ride this one everywhere. 71 hustler. Tried some trails but dinged the right pipe. Prolly better keep streeting it. when i bought it I was thinking get a set of scrambler pipes and knobbies. maybe make it a hybrid type enduro, but its too original. It looked like a ts250 to me. Really it was more like a sport bike in its day, high reving, short abrupt powerband. 36* today in b-more but still riding.

who needs trails with this one, every ride is an adventure when your bike is 40 something.
