Correct. But to expand on that, without it the inner races could be pushed well out of line versus the outer race, leading to very premature and potentially catastrophic bearing failure.

Expect so. KTM OEM bearing kits include the inner spacer, I noticed the other day. Interesting that they consider them a consumable part.

They are definitely a consumable part, since it's just a thin and light aluminum tube it gets squished over time. I measure them when I replace the bearings, have the right spec written down somewhere in the garage.
