Oregon Back Country Discovery Route 2008

The title says is all. (Almost)

A friend of mine and I are planning on hitting the OBCDR in the late spring of 2008. If any one has actual riding knowledge of this route, please post it here. However, I've already gotten a couple of threads linked to my p.m. inbox (Thanks Larry and mtrcycllvr). These guys had a great ride and did a super wright-up.

The bikes were going to be riding;
His bike is a 2005 XRL-650. The bike has many extras as well as the large capacity fuel tank.

My bike is a 2007 KLR-650. So far my bike is mostly stock but that is going to change before we hit the trail. Hand guards (Bark Busters), hard terrain tires, trail ready saddle bags are among the items I want to have on my scoot.

We’ve thought about doing this for quite a while now and it looks like it will happen this year. In January were sending off for all the maps so we can start plotting each days point "A" to "B" ride. We also plan on having another guy travel along with us that will be driving a chase truck with a tent-trailer in tow. His route will take him on the paved roads so he should meet up with us a point "B".

Our supplies list is growing almost every day. So far it includes items ranging form spare inner tubes to cell phones and G.P.S. units.

Any help, information from those who have been on this ride would be greatly appreciated.

Boyd

Make sure you have a good GPS, we used the http://www.treknow.com/

We did not finish so we are going to try again this year.

the thing that helped us more than anything was we had a set of midland two way radios with headset.

These worked great it was so dusty it is super easy to get a mile behind your buddys.

Thank you for all the links to OBCDR ride/reports. I'm hoping to make this trek this summer and having them all in one spot really helps...thanks again

Maybe some dates that people are riding this year could be posted. I am planning on doing a solo trip and I would love to go when there are others on the route. Kinda a safety net if you will.

It's too bad that politics got in the way of OBCDR becoming the west-coast BCDR like it was supposed to.

We helped a bit with the planning of the routes through central and eastern oregon, the folks who really made the route happen were Bob and Cheryl Greenstreet from Bend. They really took the reins and created much of the route over the course of a few years.

Darn them for retiring and going south to play in the winter. We miss their mapping skills!

Have a great time - we keep wanting to do the whole shebang in one go, but just haven't carved out the time to do it yet. I'm jealous!
