Thanks guys

Yeah I got my share of that in 1987 at the Piggly Wiggly. Where a 12 pack would fit in a mop bucket long enough to take out the back door and dump the dirty water.

"Everything I really needed to know, I learned in Schneider School."

I have to give a grin every time I read this. When I was a Navy lad in electronics school, I had a bud named "Schneider" who invented a handy little device we called a "Schneider" cord.

It consisted of a cut off lamp cord, with the 110vac male plug on one end, and on the other end of each conductor, an alligator clip.

It was handy for determining "what would happen" if you connected the alligator clip to all manner of things, and then plugged it in.

We tested many things, from bananas to expensive electrolytic capacitors. When we were really feeling our oats, we'd connect the clips to two randomly selected points in a AN/SPS Navy air search radar and then plug 'er in. Invaribly, something would give a bitchin'-ass 'BANG!' and the radar would go off line. We probably learned more from getting the radar back on line after one of these episodes than we ever did in class, especially on the rare occasions that there was no smoke to show us the way to the troubled spot.

Yes, children, that's how things were long ago. Here's how they are today.

Puttin' a Cunningham on that main would be like dumping a quart of JD down a wino's throat. Yup and you do a tack and jibe w/in one boat length you gonna luff sumpin'. Plus the bolt rope is burst in two places.

Lightin' out from SL in the AM, gonna do lots a single track, then head via groomed forest road to Angelo's at Panacea. Leavin' at 0930, be there or be squre.

Sadly, no riding for me today. Feeling like shit, and while a ride would do me some good, I'm thinking coffee/advil cold & sinus, and possibly something stronger later is the order of the day.

Some similar ops may or may not have taken place back in the day at Food Lion Store #202, Petersburg VA, but I was too busy throwin freight to be sure

And besides that, those were classified ops anyway

Good ride with beachfinn (Stevie) today. Rode fh-13 from crawfordville all the way out to cliff lake. We probably did 60 some odd miles in the Forest. Hit some nice spots for photos and found some ways to get the tiger dirty

We then headed up to Bristol for some fried pork chop sandwiches at the Appalachicola family restaurant. Great ride and damn near perfect weather.

Going to start ANF thread soon. That time of year!

We crossed paths, I think. Me 'n' a bud Started at Silver Lake and got to Angelo's on the coast at Panacea, via Sopchoppy and the ANF; thence back by a more direct route. Showin' 113 miles on the EXC.

Lotsa single track, mostly two track, and 18 miles o' pavement from Sopchoppy to Angelo's and back.

Does anyone know a dirt route from Sopchoppy to Angelo's? I couldn't find one and kinda doubt that there is one.

Every discipline aquires its own arcane language. Sailing is no exception.

Seems to me we ought to organize a ride for folks on this thread in the ANF one day very soon. jes' sayin'.

New ANF regimen re passes

I promised an ANF employee today that I would "help get the word out".

For those of us with annual OHV passes, here's what we s'posed to do:

Shoot a copy of yer annual pass and when you enter the restricted area (e.g. Silver Lake recreational area) put the copy of your pass on top of your dashboard and carry your actual pass with you.

That procedure does not apply to the day passes -- their instructions are written on the little envelopes that are in the iron rangers.

The fine for riding the OHV trails sans permit is $75.

On another note: seems like they are making up for lost gummint shutdown time insofar as controlled burns are concerned.

Kinda cool riding through areas with lotsa small fires buring like crazy.
