That damn Ass cot GuzziDoug fuct me with has a high speed, high load intermittent miss -- conventional wisdom sez a coil.

I reckon the good coil went the same way the speedometer drive gear did.

There is a mod to use an automotive coil, and I looked into that I was planning to do if that bike ever developed that known issue. Never did it with me..

My dad has a transalp with similar setup. You can trace which coil is bad by looking up which drives the speedo. His had a Cdi once and a coil another time. Both easily remedied.

Like buzz said, there is a mod for automotive coil. Had read about them some time back.

Starter clutches are also a known issue. You have a brand new one in there

The coil issue is pretty easy to ID. It appears at first on hot start after they have had time to heat soak. Then the miss you describe.

Interesting . . . the ass cot has dual plug heads and one coil per cylinder, as does the shdow 500 -- but I didn't know the T/A did.

If y'all encounter the utomotieve article, I'd sure like a cite to it.

Im also thinking Haarley coil, cuz the fire off both ends at once. Impedance is an issue tho . .

The shadow/trashcot/transalp are all based on the same platform. Minor differences in electronics and some engine internals (different tuning), but same engineering at heart.

I didn't know the TA had dual plugs either until 3 years ago when I had to change them/replace an intake boot on my dads. Was in for quite the surprise. The second plug is buried down on the top of the head.

Another weird fact; had a 3 valve head. Guess 4 was too many for mr.honda at the time ;)

The three valve head actually responds well to minor porting. I had an Ascot as my first street bike, and back then- as now- I had to tinker with everything.

The Ascot newsgroup has that article on the coil, but I can't find it at the moment.

In other news, just about every motorcycle I own has some current ailment. Doh. Except for white lightning.

Is there a North Florida or Panhandle version of tag-a-rama?

Indeed there is. However, indifference has knocked its dick in the dirt. it is here.

Oddly enough, it has shown some life just lately, but not much. If you regard early September as "lately".

It'd be cool to crank it back up. It was fun while it lasted.

There are two other TOR's: South Jawja/N fla that sorta around Dothan and Pensacola and there's the north Florida one centered in Jacksonville. In fact you can normally read the name on the Duval county courthouse from their tags.
