Darrien Light Jacket w/ Regular pants ...
I've got the high-viz Darrien Light jacket. I've worn it in temps ranging from 32 to 105+ and it's worked great. The pants ... same deal. Not sure why, just felt compelled to get the thicker pants; that's what I think I'd be sliding on the most if I go down.
I HAVE gone down twice with the gear on - but in the dirt and at slow speeds. But the armor was right where it was supposed to be, and I didn't even have a bruise after it all.
The great thing about the jacket ... with all the vents open, the armor holds the jacket off your body and air moves through it very easily. I remember when a rider and I stopped in 100+ weather in Idaho. Not sure what she was wearing, but she was complaining. And I sat there stunned ... I told her, "Dang, I can actually feel air moving through me WHILE WERE STANDING STILL." It was amazing.
Anyway, I agree - nomatter what the conditions, it'll serve you. I might be doing the Great Divide Ride this summer, and it's probably what I'll wear.
Here's a pic of me changing a tire at 105 degrees on the tarmac. Didn't feel like wearing the jacket at this point, but the pants were fine.
Currently no bikes. ;-(

the 'stich stuff is excellent, 'perhaps the best I've ever owned (I have a Roadcrafter). As stated, it's not the best at the temp extremes (below 30F or above 90F) but for most conditions, it works great. On longer trips I carry a range of things (elec vest for cold, cooling vest for extreme heat) but if I could only travel with one piece, it would be the 'stich. What you might want to think about is getting a mesh jacket to go with the Darien. You can get them fairly inexpensively and they pack fairly light. In sustained heat I've found them to be more comfortable, particularly when used with a cooling vest underneath.

Wore same Darien Combo to AK in 2007
I wore the Darien Jacket and pants on a 6 week 13K mile trip to AK in 2007. I also had a Gerbring jacket. I wouldn't change a thing with riding gear if I do the trip again. Rode thru downpours - no leaks. It got up to 100+ in the BC desert and it was OK except in towns.
Also the 2 piece makes it easy to peel off the jacket when going in to resturants, etc.
I found the tricky area in riding thru an all day downpour was keeping the hands dry. Gortex will eventually soak thru. I ended up with some large industrial rubber gloves from Lowes that fit over my riding gloves. Worked perfectly.
Enjoy the trip.

My opinion and a thread hi-jack...
I have about 40,000 miles on my Darien in temperatures from 17 to 105. It can do it all. In the cold, layer-up. In the heat, open the vents, soak down a long sleeve t-shirt and go with it. Wear synthetic undies and pants on the hot days. Not Levi's or anything cotton.
I do not carry a rainsuit anymore. I use wash-in Nikwax (TX Direct) at least once a year.
Quick question for anyone that has just bought a new Darien: Are the jacket and pants still Made in the USA? I know the AD-1 pants are imported, but I want to know about the original Darien? Still made in the USA?

there are some nice new features on the new dariens compared to my old one. Nice thin fleece on collar. it is very comfortable. stock with thicker TF3 armor, rather than the old TF2. Sizing is much better. My old large darien was always too big with nothing but a tshirt, but, good layered. Now, i can still layer, but, with the waist adjust, I can comfortably wear a tshirt and cinch it tight enough.
