Anyone Heard About Bears in Mexico?

Just came back from an awesome AK trip last year, so I have a large container of bear spray. The group is thinking south (from LA), and our first ride is basic, but right where there have been reported problems, the upper baja area. Since a hand gun is out of the question, is bear spray a legal alternative?
Any savy advise would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Paul

Group of 8 or so.

Was hoping for more street knowledge. In Baja, often what the law states is different from what the guy with the AK states.
You are right however, and I will try to determine the laws that regulate pepper spray. Just don't want to be quoting law to a gun barrel.
Maybe someone here has already had this experience?

Bears??? heard of a lot of dogs,,,

I keep a can velcroed to my handle bars for various varments,,, never had anyone say anything, however, at a federalie checkpoint south of Hidalgo del Parral,, highway45 a federal dude saw it, after he asked me the regular stuff,, he looked at it, reached over and with his index finger touched it,, looked at me for a second,,,,,, backed up waved me thru still looking at it... of course I am an "Old Guy" with a big smile.....I fig it's better to beg forgivness than be dog bit.

Heard that the "Old Guy" with a smile works well too.

Thanks for sharing your experience.
