E-Start Kit

http://www.joeracerproducts.com/inde...=electricstart

The place above sells a kit to add electric start to the XR400. $1399 complete with a dual sport kit or $599 with just their custom parts with you supplying the Honda OEM parts. I would imagine they would have a kit if you already have your bike dual sported or something in between????

They also have a link at the bootom to their instructions.

I've never dealt with them before but the next time I'm down in San Jose I might try to stop by. It also says they rent the XR400 & XR650 with the e-start on them for $250/weekend?

Upgrades

I've been too broke to go all out on mods to my new-to-me XR, but I have spent about $52.50 to make it work much better for me.

$25 for Universal Bar Risers

$25 for cheap oversized pegs-

And $2.50 for my cool DOT approved horn.

Dirt Bagz on an XR400R

Is anybody out there running Dirt Bagz on their XR400?

I'll be doing some DS trips on mine this summer and want to find a reasonable set up for a small amount of luggage.

I was also considering a good tail rack with a dry bag...

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks!

Duke, if ya haven't ya oughta read this:

XR400's On The TAT

The XR400 is an excellent ride, nice choice. I can't wait to see pics this summer of you doing a wheelie over Pearl Pass.

The factory will NOT copy the original Honda but put the engine into a copy of KTM frame. They almost finished a bike with 250cc liquid cooled engine on the "KTM style" frame.

Originally the Joe Racer kit was the same thing done by Service Honda. Mix and match the long crank from the ATV engine and a few parts to add the starter motor. That was $$$$$$$$$$$ because it required splitting the cases. Joe racer has the extender that precludes having to split the cases and makes a space behind the alternator to add the gears for the starter. A number of his kits went to Andorra in europe to an offroad tour company who had XR400's. I rode with them the year before the e-start was added to the XR's. The feedback was that the Joe Racer kit was not real durable. The tour company switched later to e-start KTM400's. My other issue with Joe racer was the battery placement. It was a bit cobbled. The perfect solution would be to use the battery and bracket & wiring from a Suzuki DRZ-400...but again $$$$$

If you refer to the 440 kit...it's the 11:1 Piston/sleeve kit by Wiseco. All sleeve machine work done by Jesse @ Kientech (or is it Keintech). He' a real perfectionist! I worried about gas issues with 11.0:1...never an issue...be careful because early 400's had a smaller kick start shaft than later models.

RICK:
I'm convinced the factory could do a decent business selling complete E-start engines to XR400 fanatics around the world who want to upgrade rather than go to the ORANGE (dark side) for e-start.

Thanks, I will test the XY engine on my bike first, and we may export the e-start kit if it works well. BTW, the speed limit of XY 400 is RPM 12,000 but not 8,000 only.

to you xr4 guys, hayduke?
i've done some spring cleaning and dug out a white ims tank someone might want. added are a check valve to the cap so no leaking gas or the need to run a tube to the tripple clamps. it has the factory frame & seat brackets plus petcock so it can can quickly swapped back and forth with a stock tank. it's in great shape but has some surface scratches from a trailering strap near the cap.
send me a pm if interested.
