Easy solution: Go ride your bike 10 min and take a temp differential across the cooler. Then wrap the cooler in aluminum foil and do the same ride and take the temps to compare. I'd do it but it's raining

I don't know what the gun on the front fender is for (please, would someone understand and explain?), but this picture was taken during 2011 Italian Bahia Race; you will certainly notice that the stock oil cooler has been removed, and a "regular" shaped cooler installed aside the engine.
Probably this solution is much more efficient for racing purposes, since in this kind of race you're always WTO.

I have that headlight. It doesn't mesh well with the acerbis big boy tank, so I raised it up using plumbing doodads. It opens up the oil cooler too (although I have a bag in the way anyway). While riding, the oil hasn't gone over about 230, except when sitting still for a while.

Just click here: http://www.italianbaja.com/ and enjoy!
Then you can also check on youtube, entering the keywords Italian Baja, but you'll find more truck and car than motorbike videos.
Sorry, but around here we have no deserts ...

Yeah, not as many pictures of motos, but I don't have a problem with looking at trucks doing this.

Looking to do some playing at the local sand dunes in the next month or so. wondering if anyone here has fitted a paddle onto theirs and which fit best without easting the swingarm shield.

Currently have an 18" rim.

And if anyone has a paddle deal in the lower MI area I may be willing to take it off your hands

I dropped in a 16t cs sprocket before the ride for the road, even with the tall gearing it handled the technical sections fine. For the most part, the little 400 hung with a KTM525 and a CR450 pretty well, it even pulled a brokedown KLR400 about 5 miles not to shabby for a 13yo bike.

Here's some video's of the ride taken from the XR.

Awesome. Good job on the vids. Would love to visit that area to duplicate your rides. Thanks for posting.

Black Side Panels

Hey guys, I was looking through ebay and found a set of black plastics (front and rear fender and side panels) for the 400. Pretty pricey for the whole set. I emailed them (Everett Powersports) about just getting the side panels. They said within the "coming weeks" they would offer them alone. FYI for others who have been looking for a long time. R.

Can't reach idle screw

This seems to be a common problem but can't find a fix. With my IMS tank on the 02 I can't get to the idle screw! Is there an extension mod (insert smart remark here) or aftermarket longer screw? The bike is hard enough to start and I sure would like to have easier access to that idle screw. Cheers.

Right? OK just found a couple of possible fixes...there's a post somewhere of an inmate that used the longer XR650 screw and another guy suggested a piece of fuel line slipped over the screw as an extender....gonna try that first.
