Uni-filter and steel, high flow cage. Tossed stock air filter.
160 main and 60 pilot jets. This is based on sea level to 3,500' elevation.
Progressive fork springs, IMS stainless steel footpegs, Moose folding shift lever, Works Connection billet clutch and decompression lever, Renthal bars, ODI bolt on grips, Pirelli MT 16 rear (120) and MT16 front tires and the necessary guards.
Loved that bike!

I also had an XR600 and it was the one other bike I miss.
Someday I'll look out for either used and in mint condition.
The only thing I'd recommend different is leave the stock honda shifter on there, they purposely made it out of maliable steel and it's designed to bend if needed. Easy to straighten out and will keep you from shearing off the shift shaft in most cases.

Cool2 just last night

Just picked up this '96. After renting an XR400 in Baja I was hooked.

I think my KLR650 is going to be sitting in the garage more...

Did some subframe reinforcement today. I'll post pictures later, my friend has them. I basically have a subframe on crack now.

What do you guys think ?
A co worker has a 1997 that has been sitting, so it won't start, probably due to a dirty carb.
It also has a bent front wheel.
It has a plastic aftermarket tank.
It looks pretty good from the pic but I don't know how many miles or hours are on it.
He bought it from his neighbor up north Michigan like it is now a year ago and his neighbor bought it 5 years ago from a motosports dealer up north for $1,800.

Right now as is he wants $800.00 for it. I am considering this.

What do you guys think ?

Snag it. Adjust the valves, clean the carb, flush out the tank, swap in new fuel lines and an inline filter. Add fresh high-octane gas and follow the XR starting procedure...

http://advrider.com/forums/showpost....8&postcount=27

It ought to fire up in less than four or five kicks.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Here's my 400, just picked it up a couple months back. Plans are mount the trail tech, scotts stabilizer and get it running again! Just bought the baja designs tecate HID, and the stator is getting rewound right now. Have to fix the frame rust and can't wait to ride again.

Thanks very interesting. Steel subframes are not common anymore, but they are rather easy to work on.
