The problem is that these units have a different plug setup, two plugs instead of my one 6 prong plug. I guess I will need a EX400 wire harness to get the proper plugs and splice them in. I'm not looking forward to that.

Anyone have smart advice on this?

The bike runs good with the kick start for now.

IMO the easiest way is to remove the xr harness completely and replace it with the ex harness. IIRC the only modification you need to do to the ex harness is to add a connector to ground one of the sides of the exciter coil. On the ex stator this is grounded internally. It's much less modification, and as a bonus you aren't hacking up the xr harness.

I bought a EX400 stator and I ended up getting a XR400 specific stator. As you have said, the EX400 stator is grounded at the stator so different wiring setup. Basically one wire for the hot to the coil and one wire each to the regulator for each 100 watt stator winding. The XR400 has 2 wires for the coil and two wires for the 200 watt power. Both have two wires for the pulse generator but a different plug.

Had the rear tail light/brake light quit at this point as well as the battery in the Trail Tech speedo. Looked like I did a wiring snafoo but just a loose connection and dead battery.

Hey guys,

Decided to go up to Quebec province with my buddy on our 400's (him on his ktm).

So far my aux light bracket broke

No biggie.

So coming off the ramp from 10 into Montreal, the rear gives out and slides. I recover, but it feels like a flat. No such luck. Wheel bearing is sticking out all willy nilly.

Tomorrow I will try to bring the wheel to a shop here. I'll post more pics too

Your XR is supposed to make the KTM look unreliable- not the other way around.

Yeah, the guy says he can't calculate how much he rode it but having the stock rear tyre, and none (almost) of the (beautiful) colour rubbed off the covers yet is a sign it wasn't much! I truly LOVE the bike. Hey so here's my first question since having it. What colour wire is the hot for the lights? I am adding an Acerbis tail brake light and am also wiring in the front brake light switch to-nite.

Have some bad news for you. There's a smudge on the swing arm. Looks like it was abused, I'll take it off your hands so it doesn't turn into a money pit for you.

On a side note, are you in the NG?
