Great photos, thanks for your work on the trails. Strange but our FS guys will NOT let us voluntarily clean stuff like that. Also, that sure don't look like TX, very nice trails. Enjoy yourself.

I bet stock basket would get grooved pretty quick from wheelies and hard pulls

I think I'll email Hinson about the indexing and see what their take is. I saw in the factory manual indexing is mentioned as well, but it did not explain why. Maybe I'll ask a local Honda shop??
I love my Hondas but if I asked about indexing at Honda shops in my area they would tell me to go to Office Depot for a filing system.

I would think having that little oil would toast your engine..

Nope, as long as I don't go WOT everywhere it consumes very little. I probably need to do a top end, as I don't know the history of the bike. But on that note no smoke or smell of oil ever.

I was worried when I found that, but the new oil I put in is still clean after about 50 miles and there are no performance issues what so ever. I also changed the filter just to have a look, and it looks like I wasted $3 by doing so.

Thanks!

I never thought to ask if I was aloud, but there are so many miles of trails out here that the FS could never keep up. If it wasn't for guys like us, most of the trails would grow in from underuse. We have a unique problem out here where half of our trails aren't used enough! The trail that I started that post with is 36 straight miles of single track that I am not sure anyone has done anything but hike. I am determined to do it this year!

That's crazy. I lose a bit sometimes because bike is a DD and riding the freeway a lot burns it, and I was worried losing 1/2 qt would wear the engine prematurely

Unbelievable that it ran with that little oil.. not sure if you got lucky or the engine is just built that good!

picked these up on craigslist a couple days ago..

Pros: they can lean all right.

Cons: Much heavier than dirt tires. Probably prefer dirt tires in the rain. Rolling resistance is better (MPG) but the additional weight offsets it. Front end doesn't come up as easy (mix of gearing change + extra weight)

Ihave had three supermotos, one thing I have learned about setting them up is that MANY more like everyone puts way too heavy tyre on them in that they put a way too big tyre on them which isn't needed. I had 120 160 on my XR600R and while it didn't feel too heavy, when I went to a 110 150 it made a world of difference. I had a 120 140 on the MZ125SM and went to a 110 130 on it and it felt like it dropped 20lbs. When I do my 2001 XR400R I am going 120 140 on it too. I think I read the Distanzia 140 was over 9lbs lighter than the 160. I have heard stories on SMJ where a guy will stick a 160 rear on his 400 and do all kinds of work to get it to work just to find out he LOST all kinds of performance.

Oil level when I started this morning was at the top of the dipstick. Rode 130 miles..oil was at the bottom of the dipstick..apparently, I evaporated 3/4 of a Qt today..some days I can ride 300+ miles and no oil evaporates

Those silly XR's!

Is it common for these bikes to be thirstier than a drunk at an open bar? Both of mine will go through a quart in a hundred miles.

I stuck my little mirrors under the bars, and they work. They were horrid on top of the bars. But you have to have them here for a plated bike.
