That's the 4-gallon IMS tank that I bought in 1999.
I have no complaints about it!

Question Best Headlight---- I rarely use this line.

Hmmm Picking up an XR400...

Wanting to dualsport it soon. Trying to figure out which headlight (need high/low beam)

I just found the Trail Tech XR

The Baja Designs

And the UFO

I'm likely to get the dualsport kit through ProCycle.com and they sell the BD and UFO lights. Are either of these using H4 bulbs? I ask because I have an HID setup that I could use.

OR........ what is the best headlight?

I believe the only one of the three that is DOT legal is the Baja Designs. You may not care about being DOT compliant but if you are gonna have to have an inspection to get a plate it may be wise to take the safe route.

I do like the UFO with the built in turn signals though.

You're going to need a high output stator, too if you really want those lights to work.

Congrats on the bike!

i'd go with the ufo because you get your front blinkers with the deal and the xr electrical output can't handle much more than a 55w bulb anyway.

i think it's an h4 and so your hid would help.
but ask here
http://www.thumpertalk.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=26

here's how i mounted my plate:

http://www.4strokesonly.com/LicensePlateHolder.html

you can get bolts that have led in them to light up the plate.

Both the Baja designs and UFO are DOT approved. Don't run the Trail Tech light on the street. It doesn't have the proper type of light pattern. You will dazzle oncoming traffic.

The Baja Designs headlight has an H4 bulb. There are lots of good reasons not to try to run one of those HID conversions.

Why not? And this XR400 should be racing the Baja 500 next year.

I know Firstworks had an HID on his, and had to get rid of it- it was blinding other vehicles and pissing people off.

Well, the only time I ride at night, its because I have no other choice! And when I am usually in an area where I NEED all the light I can get.

I dont think I'd have a problem with the HID... but can someone answer me this? Does Baja Designs have an upgrade for DOT light to have the HID setup?

I got the XR today. Picked it up, trailered it up the road 20 miles from where i picked it up, and did like 30 miles of single track... But I need new grips. The grips on there TORE MY HANDS UP!!!!!!!!!!!

Buyer's remorse??????????

Nahhhhhhh

Baja Designs has a HID version of their headlight but it is not DOT. The H4 BD light is DOT. One problem with converting H4 lights to HID is the light pattern. You can't fit the problems wit the pattern because the HID and H4 light sources are different shapes. Like Heyduke says you're likely to blind other drivers. If you are just using it off road it won't matter.
