Hi KLR650 rider here

How is the new Tenere regarded amongst the Tenere crowd?

I have an 08 KLR & am aware the old KLR riders dislike the 'flashness' of them.

What do you guys reckon of the new tenere - love or hate?

CC,

I guess that's because nobody on the Oz site would have ridden a new 660 since they're not (and maybe never will be....) sold here. You might want to ask the Euros who can actually buy one.

83 for the first Teneres.

Not realy a thread stopper mate, but I haven't seen one in the flesh to decide.
What I don't like about the new one is the look of the headlight/screen, seat shape and 17 inch rear wheel. These things might not be so bad, only a test ride will prove it either way.
It could be a bike that suites many riders though, low comp. engine - relaibility, fuel injection - fuel efficiant, comfy suspension - for touring purposes, luggage options, etc.
Price will be a big issue if it gets released in Aus, but no KTM 690 Adv on the horizon or much competion from the other manufacturers. It will sell pretty good I'd think.

Yeah i realise that they're not over here yet but from the pics they are quite a provocative looking design. The write ups I've read mention they're underpowered which I find interesting. I think they look quite horny & would love to have a ride.

17inch wheel? What are they thinking

The new Tenere was designed and developed by Yamaha France, not the Japs. That would explain the 17 inch rear, those euro's like em for some reason.
The 1200 cc version should be interesting as well, but I reckon they have missed the boat on the best concept.
TDM 900 fuel injected motor, 32 - 36 litre tank and an 18 inch rear, that would be the bike I'd be interested in.

hey all,

I am the proud new owner of a Tenere. I have been riding on the rd for almost 8 years and currently have an 07 SV1000S in my garage as well.

Have only just taken Tits (er the Tenere's name is The Titilator, so has the nickname Tits) off rd for the first time and now he isn't as pretty as he was, with some cracked fairing, bend gear and rear brake levers etc, but I had fun and that is what it's all about really. Was up in the Watagan State Forest, steep learning curve for me, and my mate who was on a Tard said "baptism of fire" as we were entering the dirt... it certainly was.

That is Tits at the top of the hill on the right...

ok, I was crapping my pants before going down this hill, but I put on my big girl panties and just did it and was very glad I did (though it was after Tit's foray though scrub and then a nice soft landing on rock )

I am planning on heading down to Melb on a ride in Jan taking in a few dirt rds along the way (Wee Jasper, Bonang, Warburton to Jamieson) but only gentler roads, cause I am travelling alone.

Would be great to meet some other Adv riders around Sydney though! (er, remember I'm a newbie off rd rider though ;) )

Tits has a staintune, H&B crash bars (which had a broken cross bar, hence why when I stacked it they pushed into the fairing, have to try to get them welded before leaving for my trip early Jan) and today I picked up his Xmas present, H&B pannier racks :)

I am new to the tenere's

I have owned several bikes, from 3 honda's 2 kawasaki's and have borrowed a couple of yamaha yz's, but I bought myself a 97 tenere xtz660 nearly 2 weeks ago, and am just loving the idea of been able to cruise wherever i want to go. The only long trip i have done on her (mine's a her, named "JD" after my late daughter) was bringing her home from melbourne, and just love the idea of been able to cruise past all the slower traffic coming up the Pentland Hills, near Bacchus Marsh. Since i've had her home, so far i have only ridden her to work and back, but this sunday am going on my first biggish ride, well with my new bike, with my daughter to beaufort to the lake goldsmith steam rally, so i cant wait to get out there and see how she really goes. and yes i'll be taking heaps of pics, so i'll post them on here afterwards.

My new 1995 XTZ660 Tenere

Hey Guys,

I'm brand new to the forum, but here are 2 pics of my bike.

I'm in the process of organising a new exhaust (slip-on) and wiring in a GPS to Autocom comms device that talks through my helmet. I'm also pretty keen on building my own aluminium panniers to fit all my camping gear and crap. Hope to do some longer trips soon. I also ride a Yamaha FJR1300 for those long tar adventures.
