OK gang..here is the deal and I think this will work out perfect!!

rjdills - You get the bike and do the next step of work and getting her ready!!
and you will share the cost with Mini Trail and he will remain on the team and rjdills will gain a spot on the team for his effort to get the bike going. Adding one more person on the Team will be a good thing, I believe you guys will want the extra help and rider come 2009 V2R. rjdills, you mentioned you would donated to RDF for this opportunity, you can, but it is not expected. If you do, make sure you mention the V2R TT500 Bike!
OK.. so now.. where do you live? Cana da?

Awesome!

Of course as promised, i will make a substantial donation in Brian's name. i will also make the credit remark you requested Walker. Let me figure out what my other costs in this deal are, and then I'll let the participants know that value.

I live in Santa Cruz, CA. Where is the bike now? Also, do you have any suggestions for the improvement I should arrange for?

Brian, thank you very much for this honor! I will do my best to make this turn out well.

rjdills,
If we can arrange to hook sometime I can give you the skidplate, spare forks, the original carb and a few other spare parts. It warms the the cockles of my heart to see the idea of passing this bike along gaining momentum. When I tossed out the idea last year I wasn't sure it was going to take but y'all are kicking in to see it does.

According to the story I got from the previous owners the bike has the offical GYT Dual Sport kit as Yamaha set it out back in late 70s. If I got the right information from my local Yamaha dealer that means the stator should be the stock XT500 part. It has seperate ignition and lighting coils. Unless we have a break or open short in the primary ignition circuit from the stator to the spark plug our best bet is the ignition coil on the stator needs replacing. I've been over the wiring with a Mutlimeter, as has a local shop and I am sure Les did the same. None of us found anything suspect in the wiring. So that leaves either the coil in the stator or the ignition coil feeding the spark plug. I suspect the stator coil. I rode the bike several times, but each time I rode it she became harder to start when cold. Once I got it completely warmed up she started up first kick every time - use the hot start button and keep your bloody hand off the throttle. What ever was making the cold start problematic has gone completely south.

That sounds great!

By the way, what model year was the bike born?

She's a very low mileage 19 and 77 TT500. If you take the time to scan the thread that started this all you'll learn more about the history of this bike and what all I did to get the ball rolling.

Walker Sky Ranch, are you out there? I dropped you a PM with my phone number so we can make the arrangements.

Does anyone know if he off at a race, or vacation, or something?
