Route guidance across SoCal

I am doing the 101 top to bottom the first week of April. When I get to San Diego I want to head towards northern Arizona and the Sedona area.
What is a good route across that avoids 1) vast stretches of tedium 2) the interstate highways? (see #1)
The bike is a KTM 990 not a Goldwing

There are many options. Look at a map.

I did look at a map. There are a lot of options and only one of me. That's why I asked.

And yes, Big Sur is on the menu.
