I think they are called bobbins and you should only change them if there is play if you try to spin the discs. 9-3 and 12-6 play is normal.

At 112,000 miles I replaced mine with buttons from BMW, to the tune of $108.00.

For years I have run rubber grommets in the full holes, along side the pins. I think they quiet the discs down, and may have given me more life out of the pins. When I replaced the pins I reused the same rubber grommets. It is a Harley Davidson part (some rubber mount, I think maybe under the gas tank on some Harley). Anyway, the H-D part# 11447.

I only refer to them as buttons because I heard it from a tech at BMW, he was mounting a tire for me and said I needed to have my "buttons" changed, that was three tires ago so now I do need to change em:

The parts microfich calls them bushings........just matters where in the world you are at I guess....

I Like the rubber gromment idea, nice......thx..
I ordered some from A&S parts in Roseville, Ca for about $90. As soon as they get here I'll get them installed along with the rubber gromments and post a follow up report......thx everyone
