Sounds to me like the aftermarket tank is the perfect size. A sign just outside of town reads 110 miles to next services. Should be able to make it to the next next gas station now. Will still need to carry a couple of gallons for nearby off-road rides.

Somewhere in my wanderings on a dirt road I saw a sign that read 364 kilometers to next services! No problem on a GSA or a Wee Strom.

There's a 6 gallon tank on my TE 610. Except for the additional weight on the front wheel it feels only slightly larger than the stock tank. With any luck we will barely notice the size of the Clarke tank. Clarke has been making good tanks forever. I'm sure we will be pleased.

2010/2011 aftermarket 3.8 gallon tanks can now be ordered and might be on your bikes as early as this weekend or shortly thereafter. The first pallet from Clarke has been loaded and is currently being shipped to Ameticanbeta. Get in line now.

Who's up for Betas in Baja next week?

Wink

Large aftermarket tank arrived. Mounts securely on bike. Protects radiators very well. Does not cause awkward feeling riding position. Not pretty and sexy looking like stock tank but not completely fugly. All-in-all a pretty good solution.

Have range. Will travel.

Beta Wins 450 Shootout

Dirt Rider magazine rates Beta 450 RR the best bike. Beta beat out Husaberg, KTM and Husqvarna.

Lots of good stuff in the article. They particularly liked the way the engine just keeps on revving providing the broadest usable power. The bike was selected as the best because it was best at being able to handle both tight and wide open riding.

All the bikes were good. Some better in various aspects. Beta was best overall.

Cost is U.S. $218. Can be purchased at your local Beta dealer. Can also be purchased online at Beta-talk.com or Americanbeta.com.

Photos can be seen at both beta-talk.com and americanbeta.com.

I did a long ride today. First long ride with the big tank. Very nice. Can definitely tell that it's a bit wider than stock. No issue in normal riding position. Most noticeable when riding on the very front of the saddle. The extra almost couple of gallons helps my front end feel more planted. Feels like I don't need to scoot forward as much as before. I really like being able to clamp my knees tightly into the tank on steep downhills.

I have been looking for a 525/530 EXC since selling my 640 this week. I have come across a 09 450rr, but, it is to far a drive to go look at (12hrs). I would be willing to drive out to get it if it is the right bike, as it is already plated.
How does it compare to the KTM's for handling?
Would it be comparable to a RFS hybrid?
No problem bumping it up to 540?
Also have a line on a new 2010 520rr, would this be a big step up?
Much change going from 2010 to 2011 520rr?
Thanks

I have an '06 525 which i find f....n' brilliant, but the plastics are absolutely crap. Do the '09 plastics fit straight onto my bike and are they made of sterner stuff?

The 2009 Betas are good but the 2010/11s are better. Lots of people still like the RFS engines. I find the handling to be much sharper and the steering to be very precise on the Betas. To me the KTMs are stable but feel like they steer slow and heavy in comparison. You can do anything to the RFS engines in the Betas that you can do to the KTM's engine, they are identical until 2010 for the RR and 2011 for the RS.

Beta motorcycles made a significant leap forward when they introduced the Beta engine. They're way better than the RFS powered Betas. Depending on your size and riding style you may want to re-spring the Beta. They seem to be pretty soft in stock form. Can be good or bad depending on your needs and preferences.

There's not a whole lot of change in the 2010 to 2011 Beta RR. More refinement. For the past few years the suspension has been getting incrementally better each year. For 2011 there were a few mechanical changes to the Betas, improved clutching, for the 520 there are a few internals that are coated in order to improve wear characteristics too.
