Going to the Sun

I leave for my trip this Saturday. I noticed Going to the Sun Road is not open all the way. Does anyone know when they plan on having the road open completely?

I'll be coming from So. Indiana. Have three weeks off. Planed on riding going to the sun in the first week, I think I might reverse my loop and hit it in my last week.

Going to the sun

here's a link to some info on one of the true scenic roads. Also don't miss the beartooth highway out the east side of Yellowstone. Ride them early or late to avoid the motorhome/harley crowds. http://home.nps.gov/applications/gla...roadstatus.cfm

Today's paper said it's going to be a little while before the road is completely open - I'm guessing a couple of weeks. You can follow progress via this site:

http://www.nps.gov/glac/

Click on the link for Going to the Sun Road Conditions.

You can ride several miles into the park from either direction already, so don't bypass the park even if Sun road isn't fully passable. The views are worth it.

Have a fun trip!

I'm leaving Msla enroute to GNP this Sunday morning early. I had heard that the Sun Rd would be open. It's still a good ride!! We will be "cruzin the Sun" so to speak. Anyone want to join let me know.

Today the paper read it was not open and there was three miles of dirt and gravel on the road. For info only.

The paper here said they were hoping to open the Sun road as far as Big Bend this weekend, but not yet to Logan Pass (the top). As Thumpercrazee said, there's a construction zone with 3 miles of gravel. I've not been in the park yet, but with temps here at 92F degrees at the moment and 95 forecast for tomorrow, the Sun road should open soon. They're hoping for the July 4th weekend, according to news reports.

We made a last minute change of plans and went to Yellowstone instead. Did a one day, 800 mile, trip. It had been about 20 years since we had been there so it was nice to renew our acquaintance.
Returned in the wee hours of the morn but it was worth it.

There was a slide and it's 1 lane south of Logan Pass. I didn't make it that high up because I didn't want to be sitting in traffic for hours to get through.

Take extra Plexus with you too. The amount of insect matter on my visor was amazing.
