I have an IMS (I think it's an IMS) tank that measures out at 3.6 gallon, fits good and clears the fan. Should give me 170 mile range at 47.5mpg.

Clarke 3.9 gallon tanks fit the DRZ400S very well. Get a $20 Yamaha 400 petcock so you can turn of the fuel, and the fuel line goes to the stock carb without much of a bend. I have gone 180 to 190 miles several times on my green DRZ-S with this tank, and still had a few tenths of a gallon left.

I run the Acerbis 4.2 gallon tank on my DRZ400S. While installation of the Acerbis tank on the S is not as straight forward as other tanks, I'd highly recommend it considering its size, stoutness, and pimptastic aluminum filler. That and it has two petcocks!

Some things to consider:

You have to remove the cooling fan
Relocate the horn (easy)
Either fab up a new forward seat/tank bracket or run without it
Use shorter bolts for the radiator shrouds

I love mine!

Does anyone have an Acerbis 4.25 tank with a Scotts steering stabilizer? I'm a little worried about the clearance because of the tall, huge area around the cap.

I had an Acerbis tank originally. I didn't take off the fan but fit was really poor. A friend with the same setup had a simple low speed get off in sand and ended up crushing the corner of the radiator, out in the middle of nowhere in Utah. I was concerned but had Devol radiator guards (he didn't) and thought I would be OK. About two months later I did the same thing, fortunately close to home. I think the big wings of the tank make this likely to happen-they act like a lever on the radiators. Took it off immediately and put a Clarke on, no worries since. Predictable 160 mile range, more if I'm easy with the right hand. BTW, I can make someone a great deal on the Acerbis, I'll never use it again.

I use a Clarke on mine and I like it. Bonus points for the chance to fix proper radiator protectors (I have Unabikers installed) and the transparency of the material which makes it dead easy to check the amount of fuel left.

Lovin all the input! Thanks. Keep it coming. I won't have the $$$ to do the tank for a while, but research is a good thing. Ya'll are proving that!

I've heard this from several people, so I went to the local Honda dealer and took a look at the XR650R cap - for the life of me, I can't see one iota of difference between the Honda cap and the Clarke cap. I must be missing something. In any event, I've had no problems with the Clarke cap.

I have the Clarke 3.9 on S and like it alot. I have a corbin seat and luggage rack and it all fits very well. The original Clarke cap is a POS. I would suggest a Tusk billet cap from Rocky Mtn. ATV/Mc. They are $29.99 for anodized colors and the fit/finish is excellent.

Why is it a POS? Again, maybe I'm missing something, but to me it looks and works just like every other plastic gas cap shipped on millions of bikes every year.

Edit: I went up to Thumpertalk and there do appear to be a lot of folks complaining about torn and leaking gaskets. But the pictures of their caps don't look anything like the one that came with my Clarke 10 months ago. My Clarke cap looks almost exactly like the XR650R cap, both from the bottom and top. I wonder if Clarke redid the caps a year or so ago.

In any event, I have had absolutely no issues with my Clarke cap since new - seals fine, doesn't look like it would even be possible to tear or have a problem, etc.

Any issues with IMS 3.2?

Other than maybe not worth the effort because it only gives you one gallon more?

Hard to fit with the stock seat?

Clearance with the fan on an S?

Could it crush the rads like the Acerbis in the post above?

Any problems with rads guards?

Just wondering if anyone has had any of these issues?

I hope for future buyers the Cap has been redesigned. Other than the cap I've had Zero problems with Clarke Tanks. I had one on my XRL and now one on the DRZ.
