Congrats Solo - Cool G/S! It’s also nice to have a remanufactured (- trans) r100 by the Lobo Guru. Should be able to go quite a while on that tank.

Howdy Old school folks - many dumb questions to come, I'm sure.

Mike

Nice bike Solo.
Just got myself a 1991 R100GSPD, Red/White with 27,000 genuine Ks.

What sort of brake caliper did you put on your "old" GS? Interested in up grading mine.

Quick update...

Shot a little oil into the cylinders last night and turned over the engine with the kick start, this morning wired up my crappy battery, scraped the float bowls, added in some gas using a syringe (tank not on bike) and it fired right up after a few kicks! and the oil pressure light went right off!

refilled the bowls and did it all again for fun

Yes, I bought a bike that wasn't running....I can admit it.

Anyway, I'm off to buy some parts. List for today:

Pull off the emissions crap and plug the system
Pull carbs (rebuild kits due in a few days)
Adjust valves....

and if there is time later:

Pull off final drive to go get the stripped drain plug mended with a time-sert
Pull swingarm (to replace the boot and use NEW shaft to tranny bolts)
Pull out the tranny to get a look at the splines, lube those and throw in a new neutral switch while I got it out....

Parts orders are flying everywhere, can't wait for the boxes to start landing!!!!

Anybody know what those panniers are? I've got a pair sitting in the garden that look identical to those.

Thanks Solo. Great thread. Will be looking for bits tommorrow. Not sure on Ebay, but have a local wrecker, so will check him out for price, and availability.

the questions that nobody seems to have asked yet is, where are you going when you get it all finished? Kazakhstan?

Seriously. I think you'll need a serious journey to break it in.
