Angeles Crest, Tour of California, Sun. Feb, 24

FYI, the Tour of California is coming over the Angeles next Sunday so it will be a bit of a struggle to do much up there that day. Lots of closures as the riders pass through and traffic control, etc. Route starts out in Santa Clarita, along Aliso Cyn Rd, up the Forest Hwy and down the Crest Hwy to the Rose Bowl...with some high speed laps around the Rose Bowl area. This will be the last stage of the Tour. Depending on the weather that day there could be some serious carnage. Versus is supposed to be televising it for those interested.

I've been a cycling fan and will be at the Rose Bowl this Sunday. Might even ride to Santa Clarita on Sat. Last year the final was in Redondo Beach, it was quite a spectacle. It's time cycling gets some recognition here in the US.

well there you go..........

"A cyclist depends on a tiny patch of their tires - usually less than a square inch - for traction, speed and shock absorption. Different tires offer different advantages, but all tires have a few basic components:"

p.s. Thanks for figuring out I meant "their" instead of "there"!

I'm headed to the Rosebowl in the next 30 minutes. Aside from the race, there's some festivities going on, plus the sun came out and looking good out there.

Need to get away from this computer

Bike racing fan!

Hey Chains,

How was the finish? We did watch on TV, looked a little wet. Boy I hope the Tour DE France lets Team Astana in this year. Levi has a good chance to win it all.

Last year I had just bought the KTM 950A, the wife and I zoomed all over Ventura County to catch a glimpse of the riders.

This year we went up to Solvang for the time trials. That was cool!

Hope to see you at the Noob Redux Ride.

Even though I grew up in The Valley, I haven't been up in the those mountains much on a Dual Sport. I keep watching your threads to see when I can make a ride. Sounds like you know the area well.

Well...it wasn't too bad when I got there, the bikes were on Aliso Cyn Road somewhere east of Acton about then (see the big screen).

But by the time they got down to town it was a bit soggy, although they'd been riding in the wet from about the Crest and Forest Hwy junction (Clear Creek Station).
Here they come with escort.

Can you say "peloton"?

As someone mentioned in another Tour of California thread, there was a BMW escort bike with an ADV sticker on it. Kind of a tan/beige colored bike with a black lettered, yellowish background, sticker.

Not the best day for cycling, but nice to see the local support and turnout. Now if we can just get F1 back at Laguna Seca.

I can't remember F1 being at Laguna Seca.. Used to go to Long Beach though

Loud tires save lives.

As the time trial bikes went by up in Solvang, I was amazed how much noise the tires did make Course I understand they can run up to 140 psi.

I hope the support of the fans continues. They were saying 2 million spectators this week and in this weather.

I think you're right, but mostly meant that I'd have rather seen F1 return to the U.S. at Laguna instead of Indy back in 2000.

Guess F1 is out of Indy this year anyway, but they'll be picking up a MotoGP race. That seems like a good trade...at least for us 2-wheel fans.

Wzl, I was standing next to you. Where you took this pic, that's exactly were my girlfriend and I stood. I bet you (the tall guy with camera) were with the 3 other guys standing next to the fence and under an umbrella. I left when the rain came down hard. I was wearing the blue parka and soaked. I have to go back to the car and get a different jacket, ended up watching it at the other side.

Yes, I saw the beige GS with an ADV sticker but I could not get a picture.

It was a good race after all. Regardless of the rain, I have to go out there to show support and cheer up the racers. I was a die hard cyclist 20 years ago, riding from Monrovia to Laguna Beach, then back, every other weekend.

Spafxr, I'm planning to do the DV ride this March, and splitting the campsite with luv2race at Panamint Springs. We're talking about riding Tule Ridge again this coming weekend. You're a little too far, but with your 950 you can get there in a jiffy.

Could of been me, but then there were a number of tall guys with cameras around. I was there by myself and sitting on my blue and white Specialized mountain bike. Just had a point and shoot Sony. One of these days will get on a ride together and put names to faces.

Errin, nice pictures, way better and more than I got. I really like this one. Ghost riders.

But as nice as the Tour was, I gotta say the Redlands Classic offers certain advantages. Don't know her, but gotta love a woman who kicks most of the guys' butts.

Anyway, don't know if you guys ride the summer evening Tuesday and Thursday peloton laps around the Rose Bowl, but things have been getting touchy of late from what I hear (I wasn't around most of last summer). Bikes vs cars and peds, etc. I got this postcard the other day so if it's an issue of concern to any of you it might be worth showing up. For awhile they were proposing an ordinance that would prohibit bikes from riding more than 2 abreast, which would have effectively killed the peloton, but luckily that wasn't passed by the city council. So it will be interesting to see what the latest proposals are. Okay, guess that's enough about bicycles...now back to the ol' throttle twisting.
