Just keep it as a Spare... I added the same Wire Connectors to the Old One that matched the New One so it can be swapped out if needed.

Failing parts of any kind, unfortunately, don't make appointments when they go out.

So I've been running the Facet pump for a few thousand miles now. Running into a problem. Seems like the bike turns real rich/floods when I hit a hard bump now. Bike can stall, or run on one cylinder until I rev it up to clear its throat. Then its fine. Can be fine to the rest of the tank.

I got it to happen repeatedly on my backyard trials course. The skidplate hits a rock every lap, heading downhill, and the engine stalls.

Anyone running a pressure regulator? Or are my floats just plain set too high/rich?

I have the Facet pump with the check valve in it, whichever model that is.

My feelings on the facet 171 is that it's very suseptable to trash in the fuel. The filter is an important part and should be replaced at least every 10k. I always carry a spare pump and filter. Doesn't take long to change out. Performance has always been great.

I'm running a filter before the pump. Would be dumb not to.

What's the stock float height? Recommendations for leaning it out a little?

When I measured mine, they were 2.2 - 2.7mm but there is no consistancy, Head2Wind suggests 3 - 3.5mm I believe.

Higher the number means Less Fuel/Leaner.

okay thanks. I set them to 3mm last time I was in there. I'll try a little higher.

I had a similar flooding problem, but probably worse than yours. It would try to flood out if I didn't hit the starter button as soon as I turned on the key. I tried resetting the float height, but the bike didn't like it, so I installed a Mr. Gasket fuel pressure regulator.

Blingity-blang:

Set to 1.5 psi, problem solved for about $40 including all the fittings. I wish it weren't chrome plated, though.

Good filter and no dirt in fuel.

The pump makes a funny noice and I believe its a mechanical failure.

For comparison, the original last 18 000 miles (29 000 km).

Am I the first with a damaged 40171? Can't be
Mine was the same about 15000 miles

I would be checking the connections to the new pump. Ground and hot reversed? Not much else that can go wrong.

Good luck

1- Make sure your Crimps or Wire Connections are Tight

2- Make sure you Electrical Polarity is Correct on Not Reversed (Its tricky)

3- Make sure your Relay has Tight/Clean Connection:

4- Possible Faulty Aux Fuel Pump Relay as seen here on the Right Arrow:
http://www.advrider.com/forums/showp...11&postcount=7

Which is the same Part as the Aux Start Relay on Left Red Arrow.

Good Luck...

If brown is positive the conections are OK because i tried again in the battery with the BROWN wire of the pump in battery positive and it works ok...im confused because the old pump was workink perfectly and the bike dont run since that...
