well the camera I brought 6 months ago is rooted (need to hit it with a spanner to get the lens out) so I thought I'd mount it on the handlebars and try and create a video.
The camera battery went flat after 15 minutes - not sure what to do about that. Any suggestions (not relating to my riding ability) appreciated

Turakirae Head to Ocean Beach
Left home Saturday morming at 8 and headed in to Wellington to meet some of the guys for a ride to check out a new track to see if its OK for an upcoming adventure ride.
Went via Paekakariki Hill Rd which is always a great ride. ![]() Met up with the others (Dave KLX250, Paul KLR650, Pete KLR650 and Andy 600T/A) at the BP in Wainuiomata - good coffee..... ![]() Once fueled and caffinated we headed south on Coast Rd to Orongorongo where we had arranged access around the south coast via a private farm. We stopped at the farm house to pay our $15 per head ![]() The track around the coast was awesome. ![]() ![]() About 2/3 of the way to ocean beach there is a large wide gravel/shingle wash or slide. It was tricky - I think just about everyone had an earth encounter or two. As usual it was way worse than the pictures make it seem and traction was non existant. Must have taken at least an hour to get through. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() About half way through my camera shat itself. Shortly after we escaped from all the loose sharp stones it started to drizzle - and Dave lost his large toolkit so we spent a bit of time searching. Finally made it around to Ocean Beach on the south coast of the Wairarapa and headed up to Martinborough for a late lunch (2.45) at Toppys - an YES - the hot waitress was working (Dave was drooling). After lunch Pete and Paul headed off back to Wellington while Andy Dave and I headed up to Carterton to check out some accomodation for the upcoming ride and then headed up the nearby Mount Dick - The drizzle turned into serious rain as we reached the top so we wound our way back down and headed back over the Rimutukas to Wellington (via the Akatarawas for me). A great ride - I'm really enjoying these more challenging rides but they do leave you completely knackered :)

You've got some great looking riding up there MarkS. I'm almost tempted to put the bike on the ferry in mid Feb and come and join you lot.
Great pictures too (except for the one outside B.P., way to much green in that one) |
