Nice trip Mark, sounds like you need to take the rest of us Welly boys to Apiti one day.

Do you have a google earth or simliar track of all those roads?

Congratulations Mark.
That TM listing seemed to have your name written all over it.
You must have a very "understanding" wife, now that you have two KLR650's in your garage.

No google earth - I must learn how.
Bart's upcoming RRRR will cover these roads.

The oil consumption was only a minor irritation - I had so much fun riding the 08 I was prepared to put up with it.
But it is nice having a big bore with super light forged piston :)

I can't believe how tolerant my wife has been - I'm a lucky guy

Thanks for emailing me the listing - I would never have seen it otherwise

I just wish I had a garage......

As one of the few people on the planet who own both a standard '08 and a big bore '09 - can you say whether the extra 30 odd ccs make *that* much difference?

Will you be transfering the rekluse to the new bike?

the 685 feels a little smoother and maybe a little revier but its not a significant difference performance wise. Jetting needs a bit of tweaking so maybe that will make a difference.

Yes - all the good bits (rekluse, muffler, motech crash bars, serrated pegs, bar risers) will be getting transferred across. I want the 08 to appear completely stock when it goes in for its warranty work on 2nd.

I'll bring the 09 round sometime so you can measure up the center stand and try the bike out to see if you think its any quicker.

Once again nice report. You really put the miles in. If pete could get back to us on how hard the centre stand is to make or post some dimensions it would be greatly appreciated.

My side stand has been gnawing away at my swingarm so I have to find a solution to that

Get the bars on quick

[quote=Mark_S]some places you go for the boobs and some places you go for the coffee. The Horsemans Cafe in Shannon is definitely in the latter category....

Mark you are such a horrible tease!

back in post #247 you said this:

"Shortly after we escaped from all the loose sharp stones it started to drizzle - and Dave lost his large toolkit so we spent a bit of time searching. Finally made it around to Ocean Beach on the south coast of the Wairarapa and headed up to Martinborough for a late lunch (2.45) at Toppys - an YES - the hot waitress was working (Dave was drooling)."

you have a RESPONSIBILITY to back such statements up with (multiple) pics!

Sheesh man!

I'll hopefully be able to let you see the center stand (and have a ride) in late Feb.

I felt naked without the crash bars - wouldnt go off road without them.

What else do you do if you can't go for an adventure ride?

we should have our own reserved parking spot.

we had fun and it is so so beautiful

Lunch break - knackered no 1 spawn

just after Glen had a competition with a tree - the tree won

A pylon access track about 2km long just for us - powersliding heaven

What do you do when you find a lovely stream?

you do this

after 6 hours of this I was totally and completely mind numbingly rooted

A great way to spend a day - now if only my legs would stop cramping up....
