The southern end of Upshur Co. got hammered. 20" to 30" all around. 30" in. + areas such as Hemlock. Looks like a war zone. After the Derecho, and then this, anything left standing should be good to go for a while. I'm sure my single track will need a little TLC. Haha. Many of the folks in that part of the county are being told to expect power by the 9th...that's a week out! My grandmother lives there, and the electrical service entrance was ripped off her house, along with the phone lines, siding, etc. We will begin to repair sometime next week, when stuff stops falling, and the snow melts. Stay safe.

On a lighter note, it's supposed to be 61 here next Sat. I'll probably drag out the KTM and do some damage recon.

Shawn

It's amazing how bad it is in some areas. I spent 13 hrs on Friday with a DOH and Guard crew opening up Lower Cheat in Randolph Co. CR 6 and 7. We had a huge front end loader, lots of saws and went about 6 miles in 11.5 hours. Truly there was no way the people in there could have gotten out by themselves, short of walking out on snowshoes.

This should put that in perspective. Stolen from a friend's FB feed. Helvetia, WV

This one seems to sum it up better than I can describe...... The road in this video is a major WV highway, not the two track jeep trail as it appears.

I spent the last 7 days doing Fire/Rescue stuff here in Canaan Valley. Busy as we've ever been. (Really miss you WVRocks, you would've loved this one)

WV National Guard and Red Cross brought up a bunch of gear and supplies to help folks in need. I was lucky enough to be assigned welfare checks through-out our first due area distributing food, water, medicine and information in one of the many Humvee's they had. Many roads were still blocked with trees and wires as late as Friday. What we couldn't drive under or around, we drove over. Damn those things are fun. (I'm Not saying they allowed me to drive but now they know better than to leave the keys in it) Hey, it's my taxes. Right?

While many thought this was the storm of the century, this storm was no big deal to many of the folks we came across and I was not surprised to find many of the older folks we offered aid to didn't want/need it, suggesting instead, we provide it to someone who does. Bunch of tough old birds back in those hills.

I'll post up some pics of our operations later.

Miss being up there too Neal. Been working my ass off from the DOH side. Lots of long days. It's a huge mess out there but it's good seeing WVians helping each other out.

Guard wouldn't let me play with their toys.
