I live an hour from Clarksburg, tons of riding there.

Your powers of surmising need work.

You can't swing a dead cat without hitting a good ride out of Clarksburg.

Hint...look east and south.

That sounds like me (south and east of Clarksburg). Lots of good dual sport riding in Upshur and Randolph counties.

Rt 50 east, thru Grafton and Fellowsville.
Once you get start over the mountain to Rowlesburg just go down any dirt road you see.
The ones that are not driveways will come out somewhere, when it does take a left or right.
Repeat until lost, then find your way back.

Or PM me when you are headed this way, I'll take ya on the Preston/Tucker Co dirt road tour.

What are you riding? In case I didn't catch it/forgot/or was PUI when I read it

If your just looking for a good place to play off road the link below will take you to old gas well roads around Phillipi. About 1/2 hour from Clarksburg. From point B, turn right onto the well roads. Bearing left will take you around a pond and continuing lefts will eventually bring you out near the Phillipi Airport and Covered bridge in Phillipi. There are numerous side trails. Some are posted. It's best to view the maps in the satellite mode as the roads do not show in the map view.

There are lots of back roads in Doddridge, Lewis, and western Harrison Counties. There are dirt county roads, gas well roads, hill climbs, mud, and gravel between Center Point and Wallace. Follow RT 23 North from Rt 50 turn right at the Center Point Fire Hall onto Pike Fork towards B on the map look for ATV and Four wheel trails. About 45 minutes out.

Good luck.

That's no news to me.

I've asked a lot of locals I work with and they haven't been able to give me any info on anything that isn't private land, but none of them ride dual sports so that's no surprise.

I appreciate the replies. I'll take a peek at all of the above if time allows. The bike is going in for warranty work today but I'm hoping to have it back sometime mid-next week. If it takes longer than that I'll probably just end up picking it up and dropping it off with the shipping company. Hopefully that's not the case, but if it is I won't be riding any dirt in these parts until late September...

WVhillbilly - That would be awesome. I'm on a G650GS Sertao. I've only been riding for 3 years but I'd like to think I learned through trial by fire. Unless it's crazy steep, super slippery, or some heinous combination of the two, I'll attempt just about anything.

Right on JT! I have the WV and VA and it's how I plan a lot of my rides.

Speaking of rides, I would like to start at Harts Run (White Sulphur Springs exit), go over to Glacé and by Moncove Lake and over into VA and eventually to Paint Bank for one of those buffalo burgers.
I don't want to do it by myself and my cousin on his 640 KTM can't find the time.
Anybody out there up for that ride?

A lot of locals probably ride quads, and have been locked out of riding areas due to their behavior and tendency to tear up shit.
There are several hundred acres closed to me right now due to this bullshit.
Absolutely beautiful area too.

I have an EXC sitting here if you want to come over and ride.
It's not plated, so if we pass a cop you will have to run for it.
