She would much rather the two of us be at a beachfront hotel in the Caribbean, as opposed to me tooling around WV on a big dirtbike (albeit, street-legal).
I'd be OK with a Caribbean beach but I could buy a bike and go tool around the mountains for a week for less than the trip would cost.

That's the same rationale I used.

(BTW, my gf is not too happy about me spending my vacation days riding around in WV, haha.)
Thanks for the info!

Sounds like my wife. She was at the beach last week with three of her girlfriends.
That was a good reason for me to spend the week in Pocahontas County riding. I guess I should post some pictures.

If you need a place to drop a truck in Pocahontas County, you can use my place.

I live a few miles west of Harrisonburg, your welcome to park your truck here. I'm about 10 minutes from Natural Chimneys, where the Shen 500 is staged from.

We made a three day loop out of the TWVT and TET a couple of years ago, link.

You could also do the Blue Ridge Trail. Pretty similar riding to the TWVT, you can't go wrong either way.

Ride Friday

Three of us are riding Friday along the Meadow and Gauley Rivers in Fayette County. The trail is mostly an old RR grade and is suitable for DS, dirt bikes or quads. There are two tunnels on the trail with one of them being almost .7 of a mile long.

Total mileage will be about 50 miles and since the Gauley rafting season is in, we will stop some to watch the rafters go thru several difficult sections.
Last year, I got a video of 5 of the 6 people in a raft ejected into the river.

We had a good rain today, so dust shouldn't be a problem.

Let me know if you are interested in joining us.

Yep, no problem, but that doesn't mean it's street legal. It doesn't have a brake light or signal lights (yet).

Where is that dead horse... Oh here he is! 17C-8-9 is about not needing turnsignals if you are able to use your arm to signal and tail lamp requirements. Monofilament tail light only is technically legal.

You only need all that stuff to make an off road bike legal. I had to give them pics of mine showing the turn signals etc. If you already have a plate I wouldn't mess with it although a brake light would be a good idea. I did a lot of searching when I plated the WR, requirements I found. were hi/lo headlight, tail light, turn signals, brake light, mirror and horn. Actually WV is one of only like 13 states to require signals on motorcycles.
Oh yeah it also says mechanical speedometer, i guess the magnetic sensor type doesn't work well enough, even though my street bike has one.

But turn signals aren't required by LAW if it wasn't originally equipped from the factory with them. There is a section specific to motorcycles I just cited that states the exception. Its the DMV that requires you to have turn signals because they are IGNORANT of the law. They are the ones that require pics. And I do agree jess, you're crazy to ride on the road without a brake light the way things are these days. But... I had my CRF plated and an inspection sticker but I had no turn signals..... Just saying.
