I have a friend with a dual sport down in Lakewood and another with one in Oceanside. It would be fun to cruise down with the Lakewood buddy and do some riding out of an Oceanside base (the friend there has a pool!).

The XT does the freeway ok. I can do 60mph with some throttle left. The bike is hauling about a buck and a quarter in weight so it's not overworking itself. (but yeah...a 6th gear would be nice...like the Jeep...it runs out of gears at 35mph)

Anyway...boot shopping Saturday. I am aiming at a pair of Alpinestars Tech 3s. Not top of the line, but they are Alpinestars and should be quality. Hope they have a pair.

Big question:

If you were between sizes in boots would you go with a tight smaller size or the looser bigger size? Which is better? I am going to be between sizes here.
I'll work up a trail trace on Google Earth and forward it.

Looks like I'll meet you guys up there because I'm staying on pavement for the time being. Unless there's someone else who wants to do pavement...but I seriously doubt that. Do my shopping after breakfast.

Can someone convince quicksy that SCD and Pacifico can be done on a Honda Civic?.....and safer than taking Angeles Crest. All you need is a jacket with paddings, helmet, hiking boots, and jeans.

Ok...you talked me into it...we'll be christening the XT. It will be the first dirt (other than a parking lot) it has ever seen.

Gonna miss it....gotta take my furkids in for shots...$210

Joel....waiting for the ride report

Take a Camelback if you have one...not any water until you make Newcomb's...or maybe Mill Creek.

I guess we're giving riding tips? Scoot forward on the seat in the turns, weight the outside peg and try and keep your elbows up (out to the side instead of next to your body)...and stand up on rough patches.

We saw a ford focus up there last time. I would have felt comfortable riding what we did in street gear. In fact I would have felt uncomfortable riding it without street gear because of how much pavement there actually was. You should have no problems what so ever and if you are not hot dogging it and take your own pace you'll be fine.

Joel we tried Starving Students but they were slow to respond and the reimbursement from work will cover allied so we are just going with them

PS I'd love a dirt route from Oceanside up over to Angeles Crest where I could cruise back down into Burbank or something.
